Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I was never clear about this three-year cycle and now it is unfolding in front of my own eyes. According to his own standards, he should neither extend nor be given an extension to his contract. Apart from Walker, and if exclude Foden who has only established himself this season, every single player had been underachieving for some time now, some of them almost catastrophically. The shit that made us such a tough team to play against has gone forever and it's been only left-over inertia of that monster team of the couple of seasons ago that is still pushing us forward.

Let's not forget the injuries we have, 3 week pre season. This season playing 2/3 x a week is going to be a slog this season. We are not firing on all cylinders yet. But come on, pep is quality, seriously who else is there,

Fred, Jorginho, Maguire, just couple of bullets we dodged thanks to our rivals because Txiki was dead set getting them here.

Recruitment not as bad as it could have been if Txiki can get all his targets. And that imo is all about identifying the right targets imo we are lacking there big time.

Maguire is slowly becoming a joke within United fans too and thats in a defence that gets constant help from at least a duo of Matic//Fred, Mctominay/Fred who hardly have any other role than shielding the defence and also thats not a high line defence.

Now imagine Maguire in our defence, with zero help from midfield playing at the half way line and Maguire turning with the speed of Titanic when they counter attack past him. Was that txiki's big idea to solve our defensive problems, really?
Agreed. I said on here a couple of weeks back (as much as I laugh at Maguire at United), It's very worrying to think that we actually wanted to sign him. Completely dodged a bullet along with the players you've mentioned too.

He might have been good with us. Is Eric Garcia better than him?

Sorry but cancelo is not average, he was a stand out performer at the end of last season

He has taken time to settle yes, and he is better going forward that his overall defensive game

But he can still make solid challenges and get in the right position which is what is needed, and has done.

Benjamin Mendy he is not

Walker is no different to cancelo, who can be a total brain fart in games when it comes to defending and is a liability when it comes to defending a crossed ball from the opposite wing, 9 times out of 10 Walker falls asleep to the danger that costs us

Rodri I agree, too slow and not forward thinking enough. Fernandinho he is not
Cancelo stood out at the end of last season? really? playing meaningless fixtures!

He has been a terrible signing, he can't defend and to me has a very flakey attitude, not a player you want in the trenches with you.

He sums up the clubs recent recruitment, simply not good enough.

I hope Pep is self aware that his techniques and playing style is becoming obsolete. Going back a decade injuries or not Pep's Barcelona teams and Bayern Munich teams had opponents shuddering in their boots before a ball was kicked.
Even with us, after the first season when he did not have his players our Centurion and Formidable seasons we would win the match before it even started.
The fear is gone, Klopp was the only manager who had figured out Pep now we have from David Moyes to the Wolves manager or the Lyon manager who has Pep''s teams on a string.
In Fact the blueprint to defeat us is out there in the open imho.
Opponents follow it. The majority still fail because they don't have the extremely talented squad that we have.
One Kdb pass or one magic moment from Aguero and we often win.
This doesn't look good. Maybe the football has evolved and Pep has not. That's the only reason i may be on the Pep Out club.

My thoughts entirely.
Posters should be able to have an opinion without being insulted. Personally I'm always interested in others opinions whether I disagree or not.
Surely that's the objective, purpose and reason for a forum.
So true, I only come on here to see which opinion I should have

Pep and his style of football was sussed out last season.

He needs to change, and change quickly if we are to move on.

We are going backwards and rapidly, simply not good enough.

Will a 34 yr old Messi change anything? It could make things even worse!
Forget Messi he won't be coming and as you say he is not part of the solution.

He would be very ineffective in the premier league and is too old now.

If Pep doesn't change he won't last his final year especially if we fall out of Chumps League contention by virtue of our position in the league.

I think Pep should come clean on what his intention is and if the board are reluctant to offer him a new contract than we should replace him before seasons end.

The board could then make a move on Txiki and Ferran as they seem to tied to the same cord.

Tbh Barcelona has the same Problem. Football has evolved and is twice as fast as it used to be and younger Players are faster stronger and can press for 90Minutes money too

If Pep was self aware he wouldn't play Garcia the slowest Defender on a high line. He still prioritise his style and he is kind of stubborn in this situation.

I used to dread the day Pep left, but am more relaxed about it now. Will be happy if he stays, but if he goes then it’ll be a new, exciting chapter for the club too. Team feels like it needs a bit of an overhaul either way.
Agreed, he's a brilliant coach but there are others out there.
After all, Bayern Munich have done ok i suppose since he left

I stagger at some of the comments on this forum at times.

A couple of examples:

1) peps style of play has been sussed out and is obsolete.
2) he’s too stubborn to change and surrounds the squad with mediocrity.

Let me respond in kind, you bunch of bellybutton fluff eating, clueless, Xbox/PS5 football manager cretins.

1) we won a fuckin trophy last year. A TROPHY!! There are only 4 we can play for, same as every other top team. Though the domestic cups are up for grabs by all domestic clubs, with the vast majority DREAMING of lifting silverware. (Just like I still do!)

2) why the fuck would he change!!! we’re in a period not too dissimilar to the twilight zone. No preseason, squad hit by bouts of COVID, injuries, new signings and leadership structure changes after the departure of key squad and staff members.

screw your fuckin heads on and stop it. We’re city, not some jumped up reactive fuckin club with no culture.

if pep stays fantastic, he’s our greatest ever manager. If he doesn’t, we get someone else, but we let him choose - he has earned that right.

what we don’t do, is bitch and moan like a bunch of fuckin rags or dippers!

embarrassing!

If we get Messi next year we will have the best player in the world surrounded by mediocrity. :-) couldn't resist.
Can't see messi coming at all. Not without pep. Probably best for them is to reunite at barca ..
Next summer we have part ways with pep, Aguero, Fernandinho , couple of other players and possible rebuild

True. Foolish of people to think pep's way is obsolete. it will never be .
As pep said if players don't understand his ways / what he wants from them or his stay is not productive anymore he will leave. Some comments in this section are embarassing and uncalled for .

Well, you'll find a few different ones mate.

I can understand fans being a bit despondent and a bit critical of our manager, the team seems to have lost it's vitality and a winning edge.
Players that scored for fun not so long ago seem out of form and jaded.
Pep comes over as a bit lost and vague in interviews, it seems he might be worn out or just plain fed up, he has lost his sparkle and it seems so has the team.
He doesn't emit any positivity in interviews, just looks like he doesn't want to be there.

Certainly looks burnt out and fed up, truth be told, he’s probably still grieving over the death of his mother also, with the added strain of the job, must be close to breaking mentally the poor lad
Looked severely pissed off when they scored yesterday
