Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I think he'll extend one more season (just a hunch) and I'm sure who replaces him in 2 years isn't even on the public's radar currently.

One of Pep's most important attribute is he is sensitive towards the lads. This is major reason the lads listen to Pep.
If Pep wasn't sensitive towards them, then after a while the lads might have stopped listening to Pep. (It's happened in other big clubs won't mention their names).

New manager has to have senisitivity towards the lads. Else new manager could be one of best tactician coach in the world, the lads might well stop listening.

Also has to have experience of being in the hothouse a club setup where the top honours are played for. Pep had this in Barcelona A as player, in Barcelona B as coach.
Else when it comes to the crunch the manager will struggle.
I'm sorry to say nobody from Championship, nobody from outside top2 in the top leagues.

Playing style : the players have become accustomed to a style. To have a different philosophy from a a manager is jarring will show in negative results. So a similar variation to what the players are used to.

For me the manager that could fit all these : Ruben Amorim.

I'm happy either way. Im beyond grateful and privileged to have had 8 years of him when Barca and Bayern only had 4 and 3. We're lucky.

On the other hand, i embrace change and would actually look forward to a new set up as long as it's not Pep lite as that will be a recipe for disaster.

Before that though hopefully we have him beyond a decade and another 4/5 trophies in the pot.
Agreed. I thought we’d get 4 years of him, 5 max, and that would be it.

If Pep is off after one more season it wouldn't surprise me if Alonso has been pencilled in. Pep knows Alonso very well, and going unbeaten in the Bundesliga while dethroning Bayern is no mean feat. Alonso not leaving Leverkusen this Summer while being in huge demand, is another clue. 90 points in 34 games is ridiculous.

I think he’ll have had a steer from the club on this.
I don't believe for one second this is from the club at this point, on parade day, timing doesn't make sense and the article is very vague, doesn't really say much. Pep himself said he would talk to the club next season and see how he feels.

There's not many managers with the CV to take over from Pep.

Lots of exciting young coaches out there right now, but part of me wonders if the first one to follow Pep should be a steady hand.

The pressure will be immense.

Is he reliable? It could be just idle speculation on a quiet news day.
Here's a novel thought - why not believe what Pep himself said only a week ago.
That he will sit down and discuss it.
This is hardly Woodward and Bernstein journalism. As usual, and with the aid of the lurking rags, of which there are many, this gains momentum on here. Unbelievable.

It is possible he intended to wait until after the parade but ran with it early because he thought other reporters now had the info.

The way I read Peps "chat" about his future was for me optimistic. Starting off saying he was tired but then went on to say the owners, chairman Soriano and Tixiki (sic.) give me everything I want/need. Saying he has total control of all he requires to build and run HIS team without having to answer to a Football Director or any other person who would interfere. Is there actually another Club he could move to that would offer him the same. I don't think he's other option is of him thinking of retiring.

On the topic of who next.. not sure if this would be a popular idea but... Postecoglu. I like the cut of his jib and itll need some pretty broad shoulders to follow Pep. Serial winner, including within CFG.
Has my vote. Honest and plays lovely football.

No fans can hit the panic button quite like us.
His contract ends next year, he's told us he's v happy and will discuss it with the club. Ffs - one minute we don't believe the press, the next ......meltdown.
Jeez, get a grip. Every fcking loss is met with the Chicken Lickens in here, running about announcing the end of the World. Our detractors must be pissing themselves - well you can see they are. Plenty of them in here still.
