Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I think it is an interesting situation for Guardiola regarding his contract. I think he has a very good relationship with the club so that there are no issues there. Klopp, in contrast, was I think very and increasingly unhappy with Liverpool owners who I think pushed players he didn't want onto him and even wanted to tailor his strategy/tactics.

So that once he had enough Klopp decided to pull the plug.

I also think that Guardiola wants to continue working as a football manager. I think that an important question for him would perhaps be whether there is something more he can still accomplish in England given his great success. It is also important that there are not many places where he could actually go. In Spain I think he could only go back to Barcelona, but he managed and did that already and he can always go back there. I think that going to Italy would be a step down for him in terms of the competition/league he would work in.

I guess an important question is whether Barcelona and the people there start crying for him to get back. I don't know about that. I don't think he would do that without giving notice and making a plan with the club he has, and has had, a good relationship with.

But he also didn't renew his contract. So that perhaps he has some sort of thoughts/ideas. Perhaps he wanted to get clarity on the trial/accusations. So that he waited for that.

Why are they sitting on it then? Many people are saying no decision. You get the new manager when you are sure Pep isn’t staying

it's so they don't unsettle the club as a whole like players staff and fans.
The timing is key, and right now, it's not the best idea unless Pep stays, which is another sign he's going.

if he was staying I think the best time would be right now to give everybody a lift in signing a new contract

To be honest, I think Pep is being a little precious. If, after almost a decade here, and with the complete backing of the club and the owners, he doesn’t REALLY know what he wants to do next season, then WTAF?

I think he enjoyed a great relationship with Txiki, and I have no idea what he thinks of Viana as a choice, but it’s bordering on disrespectful to not let people know, especially considering he’s just stringing people along at this point.

The only reason I can see for NOT saying anything yet is that he’s leaving and they don’t want to upset the apple cart, don’t want the speculation of who comes next, don’t want it to become a case of “they’re losing their 115 charges case and Pep’s bailing, etc, etc, etc…”

I honestly think he should, out of deference to the club and the fans, say he’s re-upping for another season then leaving, just to get it out and over & done with.

If he leaves at the end of this season, I’ll feel like he did a Fergie, leaving us with an aged squad of worldies past their prime and a gaping hole where the new blood he could attract would go.

Everyone has their own opinion, but it feels like he’s leaving, doesn’t want to talk about it while the chips seem down, and has already lined up the Brazil gig for himself for 2026-2030.

Whenever he leaves, and however it happens, it will be impossible to have any real ill will towards a man who has given me the best decade of City football and the rewards it has created, both physically and mentally. I thought the Bell Lee Summerbee days of yore were going to be the halcyon days of City for me, but in middle age, Pep has made me cry tears of joy I never thought were possible.

What better epitaph on a career than “He made me cry tears of joy numerous times while playing the best club football the world has ever seen and winning everything there was to win.”?

The 115 decision won't be until next year which would put us in exactly the same situation as the Klopp announcement
How do you know for sure it won’t be till next year mate? Not sure I’ve read anything either way, only that TH said it won’t take the full 10 weeks.

Can't know for sure mate, but everything I've read suggests several months after the hearing finishes before they'll return their 'verdict'

It could be thrown out at any time, the PL face another egg on its face Knowing City is going to win all charges and clear its name again, We have the best People (lawyers) on our side, PL have fuck up so many cases you have to question their findings and they have to prove our owners are guilty, good luck with that
