Reading different peoples views of the game and I must of been watching
a different game.

Firstly, leaving the game and there was a City fan on TS giving his view..
When asked who was man of the match...Kompany was the reply.
Now, from what I saw Kompany had a shocker by his standards. Personally,
I thought that Dzeko edged it from Lescott.

Another poster on here, Barry was crap....Granted, he's no De Jong, but he
did an effective job sat in the middle with Yaya. Solid but unspectacular, so
doesn't get the recognition.

Now, I'm assuming that Aguero took a hefty knock when he went down early in
the game as there was no movement from him at all. Very static, and not really
in the game at all.

To be honest, Napoli played in the typical italian way. Defend and hit on the
counter and did this very effectively. They didn't give Silva or Nasri any space
to work in. I think we improved when Johnson came on to give us a little width.
Width was lacking from our second choice full backs, and that was one of the
main problems. Kolarov was nowhere near as impressive as Clichy has been
so far this season. His quality from set pieces is patchy, but when he gets it
right he is dangerous. In open play, he looked a little nervous. Not knowing
when to go forward and support, and when not too. Got caught in no-mans-land
to often for my liking.

Zab on the other side was slightly better, although once he'd been booked he
looked half the player he was. Understandable.

The Champions league is a steep learning curve. Teams will come to the Etihad
and look to defend with 10 men behind the ball, and hope for a point. We need
to adapt..

On reflection, a draw isn't the worst thing in the world.

Onwards on upwards.

Perspective is often the last thing to appear on this forum particularly when we haven't had an emphatic win. Napoli are clearly the best side we've played this season. We should have won the match comfortably given the ball and chances we had, but that has characterized much of our play this season and last season. We have playmakers and artists when all yer want on these nights is a clinician.

People were moaning after the game here? I was happy with the way we played.

Did most of the people here watch their first ever Champions League game or something?

100% Agree

Putting things into perspective you need 10 points to qualify or possibly nine will do it. Three wins, one draw and two defeats is what we required and we now have one point. I would rather be in our position than Inter Milan or Villareal's for example. We won't be winning this trophy this year and our aim shou be to get out of the group and into the last eight. That would be, in my eyes, a successful campaign!

I really enjoyed it, love the european nights. First game ever in this comp and thought we did well, how Napoli were in pot 4 god knows but dont start me on that. Its a long season and although we all would have liked Clichy and Micah playing from the start RM has to alternate. I agree i thought Serg looked like he was struggling whereas Ed looked really dangerous so i would have kept him on for the crosses from AJ and Clichy

It's all part of the learning curve. I don't think anyone should be too downhearted about last night. Napoli are a fucking good team and for the most part we bettered them. People were saying to me last night that there's a big difference between the standard of premiership footy and champs league footy, but was that game tougher than the ones we have against Chelsea and united? Was it fuck. Playing big games like last night more regularly will put is in good stead for the big prem games against the rags and co. I was impressed with how the likes of Barry took responsibility at times and didn't shirk it, but the team on the whole needed a little more composure and doesn't need to force it so much.

I thought that nasri was poor but the system didn't quite work as well as it has done against weaker teams, which I put mostly down to new players settling into the team. You need to be bang at your best to do well against quality teams like Napoli and I thought that we didn't quite click into place at times last night, although I know that given time this team will. People shouldn't be so down just because we didn't win our first game and I don't see any reason why we can't go to Naples and beat those bastards especially with the pace of Nasri and Aguero on the break. I don't see why we can't go there and control big parts of the game like we did last night. Have confidence in the team cos we can go anywhere and beat anyone, this group hasn't started yet and we've got all the tools we need. No reason why we can't go to Bayern and do them, I can't wait for it

we played to our strengths (through the middle). Unfortunately, napoli had this sussed out in the first 10 mins and simply crowded out the midfield.

We needed width earlier on in the game to stretch their midfield and make some space for silva and nasri to operate in
