Peter Drury replaces Martin Tyler on Sky Sports

It certainly was that game. And the brilliant part of his commentary is that he actually announces that Lorimer (I think?) has equalised but Montgomery saved it. The astonishment in his voice is what makes it special. I think there future blues played in that game - can you name them? (Two easy but third might test)
In fact, was that the JM double save? From Peter lorimer and Sniffer Clarke?

Still curious about the nature of Tyler's departure. Makes me think that he's either unwell or it was a swift, unexpected sacking. He's been the voice of Sky Sports, the voice of the Premier League, for 30 years now, but there was no announcement that he'd be leaving at the end of the season, no send-off, no build-up to his last ever game for Sky Sports. No real sentiment either. You think Sky Sports would be drowning us in Tyler content 24/7, on YouTube and Sky Sports News and all that, but there's barely been anything.

Maybe he just wanted to leave quietly and not make a big fuss? But he sounded like he was struggling a lot during the FA Cup final coverage (for the FA's YouTube channel), like he had a sore throat. It might just be because he's an old man now and can't scream like he used to but he sounded unbelievably hoarse, I thought. You wonder if Sky Sports have ditched him because Peter Drury has suddenly become available and they had to shift Tyler off the wage bill to make room, or if Tyler's had some personal news that means he's had to suddenly step away.

All a bit unusual.

I suspect it's something as callous as social media metrics.

Tyler trended highly last season on Twitter regardless of which match he was on. Not many were complimentary.

Maybe Khaldoon been working behind the scenes.

He should have gone immediately following his “de Gea, de Bruyne, de arby” comment. One of the worst things I’ve heard.

Be careful what you wish for with Peter Drury though, I can’t stand him either.
Give over Drury’s excellent lad

Agreed. Personally I don't know any football fan who had any time for him. Like me they just saw him as yet another rag fan salivating over everything and anything to do with them.

Just wish they'd get rid of ratboy while they're at it.
