yes I was surprised, then at the end of the first half the physical and pressing strength of Lyon made me understand more peps way of thinking.

I do think any other team accept Lyon and foden would have started, I think pep went for juggling the team around rather than replace foden like for like in the areas that we where weak.

On the whole it wasn't a strong team in some areas last night and the bench didn't have much flexibility. No bernardo / KDB / gunda all from that midfield area.

Having said that though I do feel after watching the game foden would have been more reliable and not lost the ball with stray passes as much as two or three of the players that actually started.

Hoff at home foden defo has to start, by the end of the season he has to have some PL starts under his belt.

Not surprised at all. Far too many people clambering for him to start. He's barely 18 lads.

We've made these mistakes before. We saw an entire generation of good football players ruined because they were rushed in(as we were shit at the time) and then the expectation fed their egos and hurt their development.

Steven Ireland, Michael Johnson, Micah, Nedum,Joey Barton and more. All had bags of potential but were elevated too quick.

Pep is keeping Foden humble. He's far more ceiling than those above(except for Johnson perhaps) and rushing him in could be a disaster.

Keep feeding him scraps I say.

In the context of the game, c'mon lads. Lyon beat us already. We know how good their midfield is. Ndombele was brushing off Fernandinho and Sterling. Mahrez completely folded IMO because they had his number. Mahrez and Sterling are proven top players. Proven. Foden isn't. Had he played last night and performed like Sterling or Mahrez, it would have done him more harm than good.

So last night wasn't the game to give the lad a full game. Home games first and go from there.

Perplexed he didn’t start, absolutely baffled with De Bruyne, Bernardo and Gundogan all our injured. It was the perfect opportunity to give him a chance, I know Pep says he trusts him but you begin to wonder when 3 central midfielders are out and he still won’t give him a chance.

That said Pep knows far better than me and sees the lad training every single day, so there must be a reason.

This lad will get his chance and I trust Pep to ensure when he does get that chance he will be able to compete to keep it.

Did the reason he did not start, play out in that game last night, even david silva got swamped. There midfield stronger and would have brushed him aside. Having said that peps solution wasn't much better.

Think this explains why Pep was right not to start him.

Many questioned Guardiola’s decision not to start Phil Foden in France, but that call was justified by full-time: as brilliant as the 18-year-old is, this would have been a test he’d have neither passed nor learned from.
Haven’t read the article but how can we know he wouldn’t have passed it? And to say he couldn’t have learned regardless is just daft. When will he learn if not a game like this? He’d learn 100 times more being shit in a game like this than in his 10mins cameo when we’ve won the game already. I can’t get my head around how one possibly can come to the conclusion that he couldn’t have learned anything from yesterdays game.

Pep makes mistakes. But not when it’s about players and development. And as far as I know we never had a better rate with new players coming in plus the fact Pep made all his players better. Patience mate. Simple as that .
Ok fair enough , honest question do you think we should have and could have done more to keep Sancho??
