That's okay. But here is my point:

1) How much did we pay in operating costs for the academy over 4 years.
2) How much did we pay all these academy players over 4 years.

Take those 2 in and there is still a profit, but it dwindles very fast. Not to mention this is probably the BEST return the academy made over 4 years.

Now also consider the lost future profits from these players, Sancho alone makes the whole thing a huge loss. Denayer is also worth atleast 3-4x what we sold him for as well.
You're probably correct from an actual accounting perspective, but that's not really the point right? Player trading directly feeds in to FFP calculations. The real criticism is that if we actually just played these guys and showcased them a bit in the first team we could be making way more money than we are now. Take Zinchenko, we bought him for 2m and had we not been essentially forced to play him he'd probably have left on a free by now. Instead Wolves tried to buy him after half a season of games for 16m and now he's worth at least double that. Kelechi is another good example, a rare academy player that came through, and even though it turned out that he wasn't quite at our level, he played and we got a good transfer fee out of it. How much do you think we'll get for Lukas Nmecha when he goes? Not 25m. There's no reason we can do this more often, and who knows, sometimes we might actually have a player on our hands.

Highly disagree about it as a business model. Too inefficient to me.

Denayer is worth 50m now, his talent was obvious and he is one of the best defenders in Ligue 1 and carries Lyon's backline.

Don't think we will make headway here, just difference in ideologies.
it is not what they are worth now though,it is what they were worth with no first team appearances

happy to leave it there

Fair enough, I agree with that sentiment, I liked the Nmecha example :)
