( sorry if already a topic on him) any news on this lad would love to see him at city, young, english and has bags of talent and a much better prospect then cahill

Been saying his name since for a few weeks now. As Blackburn are interested in RSC we should be bale to work out a deal.

If we're not in for him, then someone's not doing their job properly. He will sign for a top club and he will be a top player. No doubt about it.

Exactly, RSC for them + 1 year loan for Phil to stay there.

EXCLUSIVE Man United beating Liverpool to Phil Jones - but will have to pay Blackburn £16million
--------------------------------------------------------
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is bidding to win the race for Blackburn's England under-21 star Phil Jones - but he will HAVE to offer £16million to get him.

Fergie has switched his search for a new defender to the talented Jones who is seen as Rio Ferdinand's long-term successor and the Old Trafford chief has told his money men to get him as part of a £80million spree.

The veteran boss now wants Jones as well as Aston Villa's Ashley Young at £18million and Atletico Madrid keeper David De Gea at the same price - but faces a price hike to land Udinese's Alexis Sanchez.

The United chief reckons he can get Jones for less than Blackburn's price - a fixed fee in the young giant's contract - but Rovers insiders insisted they will 'not take a penny less' than that price.

Ferguson is confident he can see off rivals Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham in the chase. Kenny Dalglish is determined to land his target but will also have to pay the full £16million.

However Fergie thinks the lure of United - even if Jones would probably not go straight into the side - will be too much for the Lancashire lad and he will match Liverpool if the auction soars to that level.

Blackburn boss Steve Kean, who flies to India to meet the club's owners today, knows he faces a losing battle to keep Jones. But he is reluctant to take swaps as that would mean big wages and stop him signing the men he wants

I'm not remotely arsed about losing out on Henderson but this lad is different class, surely we are in the mix? i would have thought Marwood would be all over him.......?

Every time I have seen him play he has looked brilliant. thought he was the best player on the pitch when we played them away this season. He really could go on to be a top class player, I'd much rather we got him than Cahill and he'd probably be cheaper and we'd be able to offload RSC too.

What...we didn't miss out on anything with Henderson. He wouldn't even make it to the bench at City.

As for Phil Jones...where would he fit? He is very short, so i doubt Mancini would like him at CB.

He can play holding mid...but we have De Jong and i dont think we need a back-up of Jones quality.

I suppose that is a genuine negative although to be fair to Jones, when I have seen him play, he looks pretty decent in the air regardless of his height. Having said that, you probably wouldn't want him marking Crouch! He can play centre back, full back or holding midfield so I am sure he would fit in to the squad fantastically, Mancini clearly loves players who are versatile and he's young enough to not expect to be first choice immediately at a top 4 club. I'd like to think we wouldn't choose Cahill over him just because he is taller but you just know that we will
