Nothing's changed with Aubameyang for some time, it's been fairly well known that he promised his dying grandfather that some day he would play for Real Madrid. That's a nice ambition, but even as the second highest goal scorer in the Bundesliga, it's a steep ask.
Real have zero interest in him this summer, so the next opportunity he will have to join them, given their transfer window ban, will be when he's touching 30. So it's safe to assume he's backtracking now because he knows, it's now or never. I'm sure he doesn't want to spend the rest of his career in Dortmund either and the Higuain saga only proves that he could be doing so much more and attaining so much more by moving on.
I just don't see BvB doing it, though we could give them Bony in return...
