I personally didn’t believe GFAB as he’s got form for chatting nonsense akin to a Twitter troll. In my opinion, of course.

He made a decision to wind people up (presumably) because he enjoys the reactions. The other end of the bargain is that he might be called a knob a few times. I’m sure he knew that was the deal and he was happy with that trade-off or he wouldn’t have done it.
I don’t think telling someone who’s being a prick that they’re being a prick is overstepping any boundaries in particular. It’s not like people are ringing his boss demanding he gets sacked or anything.
Sitting about fretting or crying about this is not going to help anyone. And yes this is “just” a forum.
