Wilshers still going but only in their main street shop now I think.
Had a son called Gordon who we used to knock about with/play football with some times
Liked the bloke, think his name was James but we're talking early 2000s since we bought anything from there. Looked a bit like Jamie Oliver and remember him dropping the meat to ours on the Broomwood at Christmas. We had a steak from them the day we beat United 4-1 with the SWP goal

My first job after school was at ‘Box and Aston’ butchers opposite ‘The Park’ pub in Northern Moor (I’ve never really considered that Wythenshawe for some reason, always saw it as a bit snobby lol) , they also had a stall on the market.

Woolco opened then became Shopping Giant, then the Co-op then Asda as is now, Woolworths became NSS then maybe something else before where Poundlands as is now.

That's right. All at the far end of Civic. Woolworths was in the middle on the right if you walked in from Broadoak road. As you said became another store a bit similar. Sweets, newspapers, some goods and a record section at the back.

Get Tittertons the butchers back.
Miss them pork pies.
Never had the pies but my mum used to buy Tittertons sausages off Grey Mare Lane market when i was a kid. They were delicious.

I thought the business went bust years ago but having googled it I found they have a butchers in Woodley precinct so I'll go along and try a pie and sausages.

D.E.R TV rentals too! I remember one year smoke coming out of the back of the tv on Christmas Eve about 15 mins before it was due to shut and being sent hot foot to the shop to see if the engineer was still there. He was a top bloke and agreed to come out and brought a back up tv with him in case he couldn't fix ours. He fixed it up but left the spare with us in case the other packed up over Christmas. We had a spare portable aerial so there was a TV at one of the living room for the grown ups and we had the spare at the other end for whatever we wanted to watch, it was a great Christmas!

Civic deserves a decent makeover so hopefully it'll get one.
Granada tv for us, with the 50p slot meter on the back that we could open with scissors anyway. The tv man would come round for the box would be empty and then it was a last minute whip round from all the family to pay the tv man.

Us of a certain age then #FOC;)

The market was great for your Lord Anthony keks and star jumpers.

'kinell forgot all about Lord Anthony, you've just made me smile.

I've just had a look at the Wikipedia page for them it's quite funny in a patronising sort of way.

Those TV slot meters were responsible for at least half my attendances at Maine Road (and the shit hole as it was my mates Dads TV, so had to take the rough with the smooth), that may sound bad, but when rag gobshites used to sound off, I could tell them I’d been to their ground more times than 99.9% of their ‘fans’.
