The pairing today against spur s in midfield I thought looked un creative and certainly not good enough to be winning trophies next season. Fernando in particular not good enough to take us places next season, top euro sides would have taken us in midfield today ..

The weak link was Lampard. No idea how he gets in the team, but Fernando and Fernandinho were good.

Horrendous again! We were under the cosh in that first half so you would expect Fernando to be at his most effective, you know with him being an out and out defensive midfield enforcer who would look dead good as the anchor in a midfield three! lol!

Barely made a tackle and had less touches than ANYONE on the pitch!

i know as fans we all see different things in games but i have genuine concerns for the mental well-being of any City supporter who is still defending this absolute fraud!

Fundamental misunderstanding of the role of a defensive midfielder.

Fernando closes the ball down when we don't have it. When we get it, the ball goes to Lampard, Silva etc.

Fernando and Fernandinho are very good players. The ones who need to go are Lampard and Toure (or shape up)

Just looks like a mid table to middle of the top half level player. Wouldn't keep Wanyama or Schneiderlin out of Southampton's side and I don't think either of those players are anywhere near good enough to play for us.

So your understanding of the DM role is that when the opposition have the ball Fernando is to close down but not make a tackle and when we have the ball Fernando is not to touch it? Someone ought to tell Matic he is doing far too much in games then.

Like it or not Matic is now the yardstick by which every other DM in the prem is measured and our own DM is not fit to wipe his arse!

Your defence of one of our players is admirable but you are 100% wrong!

This is a joke right?

0 tackles and 2 interceptions from a DM when we surrendered so much possession is laughable.

He's suited to a slower paced game, i.e. Roma away but just doesn't have the mobility for the Prem.

BTW, David Silva made more f@cking tackles...........

The only fundamental misunderstanding here is from you. Pretty much every player is expected to close the ball or the opposition down when we haven't got it. You make it sound as though Fernando was the only player doing it and we should be grateful for that, despite him making no impact on the game whatsoever. There's probably only 2 players in our team yesterday that you'd let off for not closing the opposition down (and we shouldn't, because all players should do it bar maybe a lone centre forward) - Silva and Aguero. To put things into perspective, along with his exceptional offensive play and when in control of the ball David Silva made 4 tackles compared to Fernando's 0.

Looking at the average positions of both teams earlier it seems his job was to man-mark Eriksen as they are basically right next to each other and if it was then he did a good job of it as Eriksen came off at around the 50 minute mark with absolutely no effect on the game whatsoever. So to suggest Fernando had no effect on the game is underestimating the role he did to nullify Eriksen, who is probably their best player at making chances.
