Navas does a lot of things right but it's an inescapable fact that someone playing in his position, in our team should be scoring more than one goal every 1.5 seasons. For him not to have scored in the last 50 odd games is incredibly poor by anyone's standards, never mind an experienced international playing for the most attacking, free-scoring side in the league. I like the guy, he works hard and he is involved in a lot of what we do but the end product whether it be goals or assists just isn't there.

Assuming Sterling and Silva are back for Tuesday, its time for an extended spell on the bench for Navas. After a great start to the season his performances have dropped steadily, so for the next few games I see his role as being an impact sub.

I just can't view him in such a positive light. Sure there is all the back tracking, covering, running and pace. But for me that just shouldn't be enough for a starting place in the future. Not the way he is or plays within the final third of the pitch. I'm not even talking about the missed chance or the crosses that hardly ever make it past the first defender, or the exact same move he makes when taking on a defender. No, for me it comes to a boiling point when make simple pass to Sagna who's making a supportive run past you. Multiple times the pace Navas himself had generated died because Sagna had to scramble to go and get a pass placed too far behind by the blue eyed Jesus. That's killing your own jive and in such a basic situation.

I hope and trust that he will be a sub in the future. In games where the opponent has someone very dangerous coming up against Sagna I can understand him starting. Not sure if he needs to start against Juve, that depends on who's fit enough to play without risk.

On the fence about West Ham and Payet. Payet is an interesting and very skilled footballer. However at home we should look to be positive...

Yeh, I know he's gonna get many starts because Pellegrini likes him. Hence I will be prepared for many facepalms, some praise but mostly facepalms. :D

There was two lads behind us this afternoon who slated the lad from start to finish. I know you pay your money and therefore have the right to voice your opinion but screaming "fuck off Navas you useless fucking twat" every time he touched the ball wouldn't appear in any list of motivational techniques I've ever seen.
Typical, had an argument in the pub on Saturday for a very similar reason

He is pretty much our version of Willian at this point. A winger/forward who gets selected because of his pace and defensive workrate. It's great having someone like that in the squad for certain games but I hope with the arrival of De Bruyne that the days of him starting matches is now limited to covering injuries and very specific tactical reasons.

Pretty much sums it up ^^

He is hard working, great at covering back but sadly not good enough to be considered a regular first team starter IMO. That said I think he will be the best substitute we have and I would love to know he is on the bench to come on and crucify (no pun intended) the tiring opposition with his pace. In terms of effectiveness he could be our version (though a much better player) of David Fairclough... Older readers will know who I mean!

He should just aim at the keeper, we would then see at least 10 goals this year. Great work ethic, just turns to shit in the last 18 yards. If he can get his confidence back then he's invaluable. I have slated him in the past, but I would love it to work out for him.
