He maybe inconsistent with his end product but he does help with the balance of the team.

What people seem to forget, he is normally looking at a 2 in 8 chance of finding a man. Often 1 in 6 chance. His pass completion would indicate he hits those levels. Any winger can only be expected to pick his man 3 or 4 times a game. He does this. Does he frustrate? Yes, but his game and our utilisation of his attributes mean he hits the byline, by this time the box is full of defenders, and maybe two or three attackers. He can't go ariel as we have no one over 5 '7" in the box.

Navas is basically asked to stretch play, hit the byline and cut it back, odds on finding a man when it's 7 on 2 including a keeper are going to be pretty poor. If he creates 3 clear cut chances a game, he's done his job, 6 or 7 he's excelled. He is normally at the 4-5 mark, everything I'd expect from him at his fee.

I will say he needs to score more.

After re-watching the Juve game, we made a big mistake playing Nasri instead of him. Our pace was so slow, he should have come in at half time. I dont know how Peller missed the very obvious tactics Juve was employing to put the ball behind our defenders from deep because we hold a high line. Inevitably, Pogba got the ball right and they came back into the match.

Folks keep slating Navas but indeed he brings stability and pace into our midfield. The only think Nasri does better is ball retention and side passes, was very dissapointed with his performance.

Karim Bellarabi.

No. Just no. See this kinda suggestion is why I (and others) feel like some of our fans would be happy just to swap him for the sake of it. For 'something new'. In no planet will Bellarabi give us any more than Navas does.

I'd rather see him (Navas) working on his finishing and working together with our forward players so his final ball can improve. He's one of the best out and out wingers in the world, and that's not an exaggeration.

Navas is by far my most frustrating player we have had for years.

1. He is meant to have all this pace to go past players why is it the only time he goes passed a player is when he goes sideways/across the pitch. Very rarely see his use of pace.
2. His stats for cross completion is terrible, He rarely looks up before he crosses and when he does it hits the first man and goes for a corner then we all clap (why clap that is beyond me)
3. His ability to pick out a pass is terrible
4. His link up play with Sagna is also poor, so many times he has had the opportunity to give the ball through to Sagna for a cross but instead he holds onto it then Sagna has to get back on side then Navas plays the short pass back. Sagna would look even better with a better player ahead of him.

Its not a Navas witch hunt honest he is a good squad player but only to bring on late if we are chasing points as he can sometimes (rarely) get it right. Pells please stop starting him I'd rather play with 10 men im sick of him frustrating me. I am hoping when the little magician is back will see KDB there.

i haven't read very much of this thread, so this may be a popular opinion, but here it is. i find myself complaining about navas more than any other city player lately. i think he's absolutely been the weak link in the XI so far. however, if he's the worst there is to complain about then things aren't too bad. he's a likable guy, can't question his heart...but with city's aspirations he shouldn't be in our strongest 11. i think he'll be a great sub, and i hope he sticks around.

Your statistics are, to be kind, slightly skewed. His job, when he gets to the byline, is to put the ball into dangerous areas where either players are, or where they can run onto the ball. He does neither on a regular basis, and his statistics prove it. He hits far more first defenders than anything else, but is the consummate corner winner...if that is considered a plus!

One of the things that disturbs most is that he never seems comfortable on the ball. It seems like it is a hot potato to him. In a team where he is surrounded by players who are almost nonchalant in their possession of the ball, his frenetic actions smack of a lack of confidence, ability and quality.

Yes, I will grant you he has speed to burn. However, when was the last time we had a fast break in which Navas had a telling part....other than the one at Palace where De Bruyne sent him away, he rounded the keeper and then fluffed his lines, of course?! Did I mention, frenetic?!

Seems to me that an attacking midfield of KDB, RS and DS is going to play every game they are fit. The quality of their passing, the weight of their passes, their movement off the ball, etc, etc, etc, are all far superior and, if we need someone to get in around the back I'm not even sure Navas is your man then. I expect he will be gone by Sept 1, 2016, as his quality is not on a par with the players around him, and he is certainly not better than the new players brought in. With Barker and Roberts looking for a place on the bench, he may be a makeweight in the not too distant future.

Great analysis.

Before Juve scored we should have led by 2 or 3-0. Not much to do with Nasri or no Navas or tactics. Sterling shudve put at least one away.

Where would that put Peter Barnes, Peter Beagrie, and Dennis Tueart. Navas`s work rate is admourable, shame he isnt tricky enough to beat his man or find a cross IMO
