Noticed a lot with our defending the two CB are always man marking so when the striker drops back one of our defenders will stop being in his position and then there's always a space in behind because none of our midfielders will drop into the space once our defender has gone following the striker.

God knows how Pellegrini has still allowed this to happen
There is nothing wrong with that.

All managers have favourites , but picking Caballero over Iheancho for the champs league squad was a massive mistake , Gunn or Wright could quite easily have warmed the bench , and Demichelis's fall from grace this season has been astounding , he looks like a pub player , in fact he would be a regular at the Dog & Duck , across the road.
Demichelis looked like a pub player for 6 months when we signed him. Tbf to him he probably needs to play every week in order to maintain his match sharpness at Prem level.

It never made any sense letting Denayer go as he would have freed up a Champs Lg place. And it's pretty obvious watching him, that he's a player who could at least fill in at right back & at best, star there. He might have struggled a wee bit in the Prem at cb aerially, but he might not, Otamendi is getti g away with it in spite of being nudged off the ball easily by bigger or stronger players. But in the Champs Lg Denayer might be better than any of our cbs including Kompany, due to his pace & mobility. He could also have played imo as a fill in def mid, as he is at least as good on the ball as a DeJong or Fernando & possibly as good as Barry etc, but a miles better 1v1 defender than any of them & yards faster.

This was entirely predictable & whoever is responsible really has made our season potentially much more difficult than it needed to be & put us one injury away from possible disaster in all competitions.

Yor doing fernando a disservice he'd do a good job as a holding player in a 3 he's just hung out to dry by pellers playing him in a 2

We rarely play with a proper 3 man midfield it usually always ends up turning back in to a 2 man midfield in one way or another so whats the point in him

That's what I'm trying to say he made his name in a 3 at porto and was good at what he was asked to do! We should sometimes play this system with him in it! Would stop the center backs being exposed to players running on to them as he would be there to stop them!

Next season:
Kompany, Otamendi, Stones, Denayer and someone like Michael Dawson or Caulker as emergency cover

Both Denayer and Stones are talented enough on the ball to play in other positions like RB and DM in the unlikely event that VK was fit all seaason

Next season if Pep turns up as expected, is a whole different kettle of fish. No telling what he will view as an ideal cb pairing or what positions various players will show up in.

Big fun.

In our present system we could do with at least one cb who doesn't turn like a bus & has pace to cover.
