Player topic : Yaya Toure (2015/16)

No one. Last few games he's proved he is a key player in the squad. But there are also big negatives as well.

No one can pass like he can, although there are also things that other players can do which Yaya Toure can not. I would like to see City play two up front in some games. I'd also like to see Silva play off Aguero with De Bruyne in the middle, but the whole way City are set up is to give Yaya a platform. yes he rescued the game tonight when it was going away from us, but his game has slipped agreat deal to a point where I think it is legitimate to question whether what he brings to the game exceeds his limitations. His limitations are affecting us a lot now.

Yes but Yaya doesn't control games anymore, does he. He is capable of controlling games for short spells and that's often good enough but for larger spells of most games we're very often slow, predictable and just retaining possession without any real attacking intent or movement.

His moments of pure genius are irreplaceable but his lack of mobility, intensity and stamina are hurting the team as a whole in and out of possession in my opinion for large spells in games which mean we can't get any consistency.

Delph isn't capable of those moments of pure genius but he wouldn't be as costly to the team for the larger spells of games. Admittedly our possession stats would take a hit but most goals come from quick counter attacks in football and his pace and energy on the break and also running beyond the attacking midfielders/striker(s) would give us more movement and that would create space for Silva and De Bruyne.
Nobody at the club can do the basics and receive the ball from the back four and take us up the park. None of our other central midfield players can do it, unbelievably.

But where does this slow, predictable possession get us? We're keeping possession but going nowhere with it. Silva, De Bruyne, Sterling and Aguero are all playing with their back to goal coming short for the ball because everything is so slow and it gives teams all the time in the world to get back behind the ball.

Leicester are the leagues joint top scorers (or were until today) and they've got no one who can retain possession as well as Delph and Fernandinho, never mind Yaya. Goals are scored in lots of different ways, you don't need 90% possession to score goals.

We don't want to play like Leicester surely? All I saw last week was route 1, a long ball forward for vardy to chase. That will get found out soon, if not already. I would say our biggest problem at the moment is not yaya playing slow attack building passes, but the lack of a true attacking full back with pace i.e Pablo Zabaletta. In the season we last won the league, towards the end of the season there was just no way through the middle, it was a brick wall. We scored so many goals through zabaletta overlapping and getting the ball over. Was hoping sterling could do something similar on the left but he's not that type of player and kolorov doesn't have the pace. In any team you need a central midfield player who can receive the ball from the defence and pass it on. In my opinion there is no better player in the premier league at doing that than Yaya Toure.

I fully appreciate your points but whatever team you pick that has Yaya Toure in it is a risk and a compromise, meaning any form of consistency is impossible.

In home games against weaker opposition who show very little or no attacking intent that's a justifiable risk. In away games and in games against stronger opposition who are good enough to exploit any weaknesses we have, Yaya's lack of mobility, intensity and stamina are killing us defensively and its a risk we just don't have to take. Having him on the bench as a gamble to bring on with 10-15 minutes is the best option to minimise risk and maximise his effectiveness.

And I never said I wanted us to play like Leicester, it was to illustrate my point that goals come in many different ways. There's a time and place to play fancy football and there's a time and place to win games ugly, we just need to find the right balance without exposing our glaring vulnerabilities.

I'd disagree that his stamina is the problem. His telling contributions are coming in the last ten minutes of the game. That's pretty much always been the case with him. People just expect him to do everything all the time just because he is such an all rounder. He was throwing himself into plenty of tackles today when we didn't have the ball and doing everything to get on it when we had the ball.

Lazy, disinterested half the time then he scores a goal like that. Amazing technique on the guy, I just think he's inherently lazy and the manager is allowing him to be.

Enjoy him now folks cos when he's gone he is surely gone. Our most important player ever. Commeth the hour and all that stuff. Rarely if ever injured like our other hero's Kun and Dave and Vinny and Zabs. Every single week puts his heart on his sleeve on our behalf and never shirks a game.

Yeah he's not marauding through 3 or 4 players at a time any more but he is our most influential player by a mile in all he brings with him.

We used to always see the stat of how many passes players make in a game and I'd venture he's still around the 100 to 120 in any given game. Which is why I was amazed when I saw the sky sports graph during the week that Carzola leads the most completed passes chart, not so much him leading but yaya wasn't in top 5 or 6 yet Dinho was. Anyone able to come up with a place I can go to check out these figures?

Best city player I've seen .. Poor tonight apart from the goal , but that's Yaya for you ..
Miss him when he's gone
