Well I think the Yaya is the problem has been put to bed today.
The problem is the manager. Two central midfielders doesn't work. We essentially play 424 because of the advanced positions the striker, two wide players and the attacking mid take up. Teams can get at us so easily when we play like this. Doesn't matter if it's Yaya and Fernandinho (then everyone blames Yaya for being lazy when he isnt, he's the best passer of the ball I've ever seen and needs players closer to him to pass to and defend with or at least cover him as he ages and can't cover ground like he once could) or Fernando and Fernandinho like yesterday. If a team is prepared to sacrifice a striker and play 6in midfield they will overrun us, if a team still had a striker but 5 in midfield they will still overrun us!

We had the same problems yesterday as we do when everyone moans about Yaya being lazy.

Underrated part of Yaya's game was missing today. You can have Messi in the final 3rd of the pitch but if you can't link play your attack will be toothless just like today. This is why Yaya is crucial to the side and has played pretty much every game/min possible across 3 managers. He presents himself to defenders, can play variety of passes, and draws the opposition out allowing creative players like Silva space to work their magic. Him making those darting runs, goals, set pieces are all icing on the cake. His real role on the team is to function as deep lying playmaker.

That is why it drives me crazy when people slam him for lack of goals or not tracking back. Its great when he does those things, but that is not his main role on the team!!!!

The problem is that he is in decline, but we still need him to provide the link up play.

Best performance of the season, second half at least. Looked much sharper than he has previously.
