we can play all 3, we just have to drop one of the more attacking players which is exactly what i think we should do for the time being

------------hart---------------

----------back 4----------------

dino----- yaya---------- delph

now you pick a front 3 .....we know silva starts so that goes without saying as does Kun when fit....so that leaves kdb and sterling rotating

makes us much more solid and we still have a considerable attacking presence/threat

And leaves us with one of two players capable of creating and scoring in the Champions League on the bench to accommodate someone whose not producing the goals or assists in anywhere near the same numbers. A couple of years ago he was and for all his defensive inadequacies you had to play him because we had no one better, now we have De Bruyne and Sterling who simply are in terms of effectiveness, if not style and elegance.

That's how we started the second half and it's no coincidence we had our best spell just after half-time. Delph should have been more central though.

We had 9 if you discount Yaya and Bony, we had two ideal replacements in Delph and Kelechi.

Yaya was world class, he's now finished at the very highest level unfortunately. There's two sides to a game - with the ball and without the ball, being great at one and atrocious at the other isn't good enough against anyone who knows how to exploit his weaknesses and its happening more and more often.

Yaya didn't play vs Spurs or Stoke. We had the exact same problems in those games that Yaya is accused of causing.

If you think Delph is a better option than Yaya then you probably don't really understand the game. Ourmost successful midfield combination is Yaya/Fernandinho by far. We probably need another player to make it a three in the bigger games, not because of Yaya but because a three man midfield is harder to play through in general.

Our defensive problem is a team one. We don't defend as a unit and not enough players put in a shift. At Barca, even Messi, Neymar and Suarez help defend from the front. We don't do that.

Those that blame it on Yaya are thinking way too simplistic. He's the only player on the level of Silva in terms of keeping hold of the ball and linking up the play. Pirlo wasn't a defensive monster either but he played a similar position to Yaya because of those ball qualities.

Absolute rubbish, we had a 25 year old England international regular (when fit) sat on the bench who although not as technically talented would give us an instant injection of pace, energy and aggression to allow us to play the high pressing style which Yaya unfortunately isn't capable of playing.
unfortunately pace, energy and aggression trail technique (passing, intelligence, etc) in the pecking order when you consider must-have qualities for central midfielders. Ever wondered why the best CMs in the world aren't necessarily the fastest or most aggressive
but the most intelligent. Alcantara, Xavi (in his hey days), in the epl Carzola, etc. Even the ones that are known for aggressiveness also have a great deal of technique about them (Veratti, Gundogan a couple of years back, Koke). So for me it's brain over brawn every day of the week. The earlier we realize that we are
short in CM the better for us. The most important thing about a CM is completeness. You can't have one set of qualities and be far behind in the other and still be a force to reckon with. With all due respect, based on what I've seen Delph play so far, I'm not sure that we'd be able to control games if we use Fern+delph combo. I'm no sorcerer but I guess fate would prove me right or wrong.

Spot on. It's like asking for Milner in the middle over Yaya. Completely delusional.

Odd, you're the 2nd person to claim that Ya Ya didn't play against Spurs...he did, he came off early 2nd half....if you're talking about the 1-4 game that is?
