Players you wished had stayed longer

Maybe controversial....persuading Peter Schmeichel to play another year may have worked out better than signing Seaman....although that indirectly led to us signing James when Seaman got injured and subsequently retired mid season.

Remember Schmeichel's display in our last Anfield win in 2003 with a very late Anelka winner.

1/1 going into the last minute.
I blamed Hart at the time no idea what he was doing rushing out like that.
Ah. Thanks for the correction. As for Mr Hart: I’d say nerves got the better of him for I was nervous.

Has anyone mentioned David Wagstaffe? A fine player, sold before he reached his prime.
I agree about Wagstaffe. He was just reaching his peak when City sold him. He became a club legend for Wolves.

Imagine what a forward line of Summerbee, Bell, Lee, Young and Wagstaffe would have achieved!

The circumstances of his move left a bad taste as it appeared to signal the start of a ‘sell anyone who can attract a transfer fee’ phase. Fortunately the Board did a rethink and shortly afterwards signed Johnny Crossan.

I was dragged by my parents to the grandparents in Shropshire for Christmas. I got the supporters bus from Oakengates to Molyneux on Boxing Day to see them announce their new signing: David Wagstaffe.

Whatever happened with Nastasic, it wasn't about what he did on the pitch. I'm 90% convinced that there's stuff we don't know about, behind the scenes.

I believe you’re right. Someone once wrote about a “Big Five” at City in those days: Hart, Kompany, Toure, Silva and Aguero. As with all types of “cabals”: they are very powerful and ultimately, destructive in some aspects such as playing even their unfit or out of form and ostracism if you’re considered a threat to that privilege.
Pep, God bless him, dismantled this “Big Five”: Hart was transferred; Kompany rarely played; Toure was sent to the reserves until he showed some humility and Jesus was preferred to Aguero. The results of this, eventually, was back-to-back Premier League titles, records broke that had stood for decades and other trophies and records including the first domestic treble.

PS. I forgot to mention David Silva in the Pep revolution and that’s because he was/is the consummate professional throughout all of this and why he will always be - in my humble opinion- one of the finest footballers to ever wear the City shirt.
