Please Don't Give Your Season Ticket Up!

Major league sports tickets are a mess in the US and almost always prohibitively expensive for most people. However, one thing I think is great…the team for which we have season tickets allows you to sell back your ticket on a team approved exchange. You can get more or less than face value depending on the level of interest/popularity. So even if you can go to 5 out of 50 games a year, most people still keep their season tickets. And because it’s so easy to sell them back, the seats are usually full. I don’t think it could work as is in the UK, but maybe in some way?
Yes, with tourists and away fans. This is another reason why someone would give up their season ticket. Having to sit next to tourists or away fans is miserable. It works in America because there is no rivalry, and fans are accepting of anyone who sits there. Just look at the Super Bowl or any NFL game there are pockets of away fans all over the home end, but nothing kicks off.

I've a grandson (not old enough yet) to think of, so won't be giving mine up, as he'll get the benefit soon enough.

I currently live 170 miles away, and have missed more games this year than before, but I intend to be only a handful of miles away by next season (retirement), so hopefully easier access, and no work interfering.

There's a bit too much moaning about the price of season tickets in my opinion, but without a season ticket, I'd maybe only do a a handful of games each season, such is the disparity between the two.

Despite what some think (depends where you sit I guess), my season ticket is fantastic value, and in two seasons time (assuming City don't get rid of the FOC discount) it will get even better value.

I've been watching City for over 50 years, and this years "dreadful" season, would have ranked as one of the best in most of those years up until 2011.
Absolutely.

My season ticket, in Block 232, costs less that £21 per match. That is not likely to put me off renewing. What has made me reconsider is the price of rail travel from Edinburgh and the unreliability of the train service. There is also the escalating cost of hotel accommodation. This used to be £40-£50 a night back in 2014 and now is more likely to be over £100.

More hotel bookings are now needed with the silly kick-off times, such as late Saturday matches and now a Friday night match, and the increasing unreliability of the trains (Trans Pennine Express).

There's no need to be sarcastic is there.

Pay monthly interest free.
Use the 3 Family and Friends option. The names can be changed.
By an extra citizens card so the person can go on family and friends. Ask them to pay the cost of the citizens card. Guarantee them some games.
If push comes to shove and you can't make the game or your family or friends can't make the game, use the ticket exchange.
Use Blue Moon and other City fan sites to sell your seat.
There are plenty of ways to sell your seat without giving up your season ticket.
You won't get all your season ticket money back, but if you make the effort you will get some of your season ticket money back for the games you can't attend.

Has that enlightened you

Yes thanks that has enlightened me a little.
I guess that's what I was looking for, more options not to give it up rather than reasons to.
I travel 50 miles by train with reliability being an ever increasing issue, by car is worse.

Great post JRB

Barring the odd year with work etc been a regular attender 95+ % of home games since 1971 and a ST holder from 77ish.

Due to travelling, my choice to move away from Manchester 3 years ago it's turned into a chore especially over winter. The match day experience & connection to the club top brass? Don't get me started on that.

The LC cup scheme will be missing next season, there'll only be the FA one left but I might bin that one too.

I intend to renew (62 next week) as I want to be in my SS spot for the NS opening but I'll chuck some bad weather seats into the exchange/on here, the season afterwards depends on my health, any restrictions on moving tickets on, if I can still be arsed travelling etc.

I’m definitely giving mine up and I can’t wait. 15 years of good times but I will never give the club another penny if I can avoid it. Happy to threaten to take your ST away if you can’t attend but unwilling to hear the reason you can’t attend at short notice (I have MS) so fuck the club. Absolute vermin.

I'm giving mine up and Saturday confirmed it
I read on here how many people were buzzing about how the team played on Saturday, what a great performance it was and all I thought was "meh" when indeed it wasn't that long ago I'd have agreed

Cost
Difficulty in parking
Having to set off earlier and earlier
Match days swapping along with KO times, so i can't plan my life
I struggle to walk any distance pain free because of my knee (having a new one later this year)
The Liverpool game really pissed me off with infiltrators and how many half and half scarves I've was looking at
The club hates me for taking a non padded premium seat for £48 a game
And although it didn't affect me, the way my fellow Blues were treated by UEFA in Istanbul and the club's silence, which is utterly shameful
Might as well be Ryanair

Share the cost with someone else.
Go halves with a mate or family member split the games in half (well, 10/9)
Offer someone night matches and you stay on weekends. Or Vice-versa if you prefer night games.

We need you going to City games. We need proper Blues. It was a good atmosphere against Palace, even at 0-2, and it was noticeable there was more of a ‘Citeh’ crowd there. Not people who aren’t City fans (these were all from the City v LIVERPOOL game, not even Arsenal/United) :

I have too and you're right. 5th in the league battling for a CL place, semi final of FA cup and going into the CWC in summer. Not a bad season and I haven't moaned about this season because I reflect on all past shit seasons we've endured, and that puts things into perspective for me.

And what I don't understand is as ll the longterm blues on the match day thread, tapping away their anger instead of watching the game and trying to enjoy. My advice is stop me moaning and go and mow the lawn or make a brew and chill the fuck out. Better still go to the game and cheer the lads on.

I keep on reading people are going to give their season tickets up or are thinking about giving their season tickets up.

Please don't do that!

The directors will only turn those season tickets into expensive match day tickets.

Once you give your season ticket up you will never get it back again.

We all need to keep our season tickets for as long as we can.
Not sure where you’re reading this but if it’s on here then it’s fair to say it’s a very small percentage of the clubs ST holders (they’re not all on here :-) ) - & IMHO most of those are just letting off steam and using the site to have a moan

I honestly dont know anybody who is giving up their ST & we mustn’t forget our amazing unprecedented achievements over the last 8 years………plus the prices have been frozen

Person I will be astounded if more than a handful relinquish their season tickets. As someone has said anyone who does will probably be due to age, mobility or bereavement. I lived/worked overseas during my employment for quite a number of years (before Etihad) but never relinquished my ST. City till I die

Question.

Do any of you keep your old season tickets?

If so, why?

And what's the oldest season ticket you have?
Got all mine. The first one yellow book junior in the kippax 85-85 season £17
Kept all tickets etc each season in an envelope plus papers from major milestones
Going back to Luton relegation and Charlton promotion
Brother still has the pink from 74 ‘Law sinks reds’

As much as its good to say don't give up your ticket, but there will be many reasons people may do it and we have to respect their decisions. The world is getting more expensive and football then drops down the importance levels. Some of us are fine and have no issues but others will think twice when it becomes a choice between food on table or footy.

The club should release more tickets but as a business they also have a right to make decisions for their business. We should be pushing for more control of costs eg agents, players etc. Bring the whole cost of football down. It's out of control. If costs come down I'm sure we may see more affordable football.

Had a season ticket for 17 years from 1998, through the lowest points in our history. Family commitments and the spiraling cost made it more difficult to go but I kept buying it (out of loyalty more than anything else) moving to the cheapest (they pick your seat) season ticket. Eventually the cost still became too much.

Now I go to 7 or 8 cup games a season, where the cost is cheaper, and take my daughter to 7 or 8 womens games a year, which is excellent value for money. To be honest, I enjoy each game I go to more now, appreciating the day out more. All the other games (mens and womens) I stream on t'internet.

To be honest, I wish I'd given up my season ticket earlier. The guilt I felt, initially giving it up, has faded, not least from the pleasure I now get from going monthly with my kids but also the gradual disconnect that the club has with its 'legacy' fans.

I kept all mine. My dad managed the lose my first one (1969-70) so have a replacement for that. Some of the others have autographs on from when we used to wait for players before matches as they parked in the car park behind the Platt Lane Stand .
