Please Don't Give Your Season Ticket Up!

Had a season ticket for 17 years from 1998, through the lowest points in our history. Family commitments and the spiraling cost made it more difficult to go but I kept buying it (out of loyalty more than anything else) moving to the cheapest (they pick your seat) season ticket. Eventually the cost still became too much.

Now I go to 7 or 8 cup games a season, where the cost is cheaper, and take my daughter to 7 or 8 womens games a year, which is excellent value for money. To be honest, I enjoy each game I go to more now, appreciating the day out more. All the other games (mens and womens) I stream on t'internet.

To be honest, I wish I'd given up my season ticket earlier. The guilt I felt, initially giving it up, has faded, not least from the pleasure I now get from going monthly with my kids but also the gradual disconnect that the club has with its 'legacy' fans.
Eh? Sad you had to give it up but you make it sound as if - in hindsight- you would have done even if you could afford to keep it. Well to add some balance, I’ve been a ST holder for decades & im really glad I have.

Through the short good times under Book, through the bad times watching CITY go to play at Macc - to the current era
I enjoy going to every game - the Palace match sums us up.

Just my feelings on the matter (which I hope I’m allowed to have without getting pelters from those who are unhappy with the club for one reason or another)

I’m definitely giving mine up and I can’t wait. 15 years of good times but I will never give the club another penny if I can avoid it. Happy to threaten to take your ST away if you can’t attend but unwilling to hear the reason you can’t attend at short notice (I have MS) so fuck the club. Absolute vermin.
Cant you sell your ticket at short notice or even give it away?

Got all mine. The first one yellow book junior in the kippax 85-85 season £17
Kept all tickets etc each season in an envelope plus papers from major milestones
Going back to Luton relegation and Charlton promotion
Brother still has the pink from 74 ‘Law sinks reds’
I remember the last game of the season people used to tear their books up to use a ticatape as the players came onto the pitch.

I’ve still got quite a few of my old books.

The club should release more tickets but as a business they also have a right to make decisions for their business. We should be pushing for more control of costs eg agents, players etc. Bring the whole cost of football down. It's out of control. If costs come down I'm sure we may see more affordable football.

All the evidence tells me trickle down economics doesn’t work

I had 99% decided not to renew as I find it difficult to get to many matches now. However in view of the protests etc I am now keeping it. I know there is always someone who will have the ticket off me for what I paid or even sometimes for free so the club make nowt extra from me.

However I won’t be renewing my cup memberships. I registered for all cup schemes but not next season.

New season tickets not being available is the problem, that's the battle, along with the disgusting match day prices of late.

I hope a price freeze and a pat on the head, doesn't deter the supporters groups from organising more protests.
Season card hoarding that denies families getting tickets together is also a big problem.

As much as its good to say don't give up your ticket, but there will be many reasons people may do it and we have to respect their decisions. The world is getting more expensive and football then drops down the importance levels. Some of us are fine and have no issues but others will think twice when it becomes a choice between food on table or footy.

Some of Phil Foden’s performances haven’t deserved 325 pence, never mind £325 grand.

Been considering calling it a day after fifty years plus but decided to keep it next season , definitely not doing any cup schemes. The thing that has pissed me off the most is the way legitimate complaints after Istanbul were completely ignored by the club .

Yeah we are at the point where I will be renewing mine on spite, not wanting them to get their aim of us giving up
I know what you mean.

will end up with 37,000 people paying to do their own "sit in" to avoid the decline in season tickets.......

Yeah, no chance of this happening unless they are forced to like the £30 away tickets they shamefully voted against. Just bigger margins for them.
US hedge funds don’t tend to go big on looking after the little man when there is profit to be made.

Sorry to be the exception, but I will be renewing with enthusiasm. Not only that, I will be cheering on the lads in person throughout next season. I will be giving extra support to the local lads who have broken into the first team.

I will be happy to join more protests if the Directors continue to take the piss, but I won’t be a miserable c*nt.

Yes, with tourists and away fans. This is another reason why someone would give up their season ticket. Having to sit next to tourists or away fans is miserable. It works in America because there is no rivalry, and fans are accepting of anyone who sits there. Just look at the Super Bowl or any NFL game there are pockets of away fans all over the home end, but nothing kicks off.
Yes, you’re right. However, the team we have tickets too has a pretty significant historical rivalry. If those fans end up sitting near my husband’s tickets, his friends usually enjoy giving them crap. There have been issues in the past, but usually it’s okay.

I think the bigger issue is the US is so spread out, you get fewer away fans at games. And the Super Bowl isn’t a great example - most people there aren’t fans of any team, they’re just rich or lucky enough to get tickets!

Nowt extra...why have we become so bitter as a fan base ? As a season ticket it holds perks, and quite frankly it should because you have shelled out for the full season regardless if we are good or not, on the flip side the club should be able to sell your ticket if you are not going, i agree with the inflated match prices but it seems that everyone is ripping into the club, what they have given us is off the scale but for some (not you) its never enough...
