Pneumonia

    Its a bit like flu's and colds, viral pneumonias can be very serious and bacterial pneumonias minor. However as viral and bacterial pneumonias may be very difficult to tell apart antibiotics would probably be used anyway.

    There shouldn't be a single Dr in the UK who would prescribe an antibiotic for pneumonia, if they didn't know which type it was.

    I would love to meet the Doctor who can reliably tell them apart.

    This,unless they are literally on deaths door and time is of the essence they do tests first

    This is not true most GP's will give antibiotics and not do any tests , in hospitals they will give antibiotics and run a few tests.

    They don't dish out antibiotic for everyone presenting with a chest infection,if they think it's pneumonia they will send them to hospital as if they make the wrong call the patient can be toast

    GP's treat a lot of pneumonias in the community empirically with antibiotics.

    You need chest X-ray to see patch...you should go to doc as complications can make it worst ...my dad had it ,so telling you
