Policing in the UK

Listening to his show

A lot of Ex and current Police calling in now sharing their experience with the institutionalised racism and misogyny that exists within the force - thanking O'Brien for getting their voices out

It's a force for good to have people like O'Brien help expose what's happened in the Police for a long time and it's the only way if we are to change the direction

really good informative listen

What a bizarre take the person you're responding to took.

Highlighting Police corruption, misogyny and racism must now be just a 'leftie' thing.

It’s funny considering the right wing constant attacks on the Police for being to lefty and woke, dancing with the LGBQT community etc

Just watching the response of the mother of the two sisters murdered and whose bodies were photographed by some Met officers; articulate, balanced and such common sense. Inspirational really.

I think every Met Officer today needs to take a good long look in the mirror - what is in that report happened on their watch - if any of them joined in the "bants" or didn't say anything when they saw of heard wrong coz "they didn't want to cause trouble" needs to seriously ask themselves are they up to the task. All those who jokingly called fellow officer "the rapist" or the "beast " must know they are in the wrong job. If they don't they need to be told to hand back their warrant cards

says it all about Policing in the UK these days

The police accused of not actually doing any police work shocker, they could have put every crime other than stealing from supermarkets or saying bad things online because those appear to be the only offences they pursue with any vigour these days.

Ten pages and no one has addressed the elephant in the room.

Cameron and that fucking clown Osborne cut 1000's of experienced police officers. The justice system was hollowed out, probation privatised and private companies brought in to do back office work and help with security. Their reasoning was crime was falling.

When quelle surprise it started to rise they started to recruit new police officers, screened them badly and trained them poorly. Aided and abetted by RW stupidity like attacks on "woke" policing, training was cut further and courses were cut back. The perfect storm was created for a police force that is unfit for purpose.

The self proclaimed party of Law and Order became the party of Lawlessness and Disorder.

Ask yourself these questions

1/ when did you last see a copper or even a PCSO on the beat?
2/ when was the last time you saw a traffic cop on the road?
3/ how come there are so few coppers at the match?

Policing has been systematically undermined for years and any party that promised to rectify the situation would be worth voting for. A strong visible police force is worth its weight in gold.

Whilst I wouldn’t disagree with the points you are masking I would suggest that funding cuts exacerbated, rather than created, the problems with the Met.
When I used to work in the police for a NW force one of my responsibilities was to recruit transferee officers and I can tell you that Met officers were nearly always the worst.
Give them any operational scenario and their first response is to call for back up and wade in waving their batons. For most forces back up is probably 30 mins away so what you need is officers who can defuse a situation and gain trust.
Met officers are poorly recruited, poorly paid (by London standards) and struggle to police by consent. Yes I’m generalizing but the average officer from most other forces is better than a Met officer.
