Political relations between UK-EU

What about Macron and his buddy buddy with Trump?

They were practically best mates for a period of time weren’t they?

The reason the UK and French governments rolled out the carpets for him was simple, the US is so incredibly important historically to both nations, and is incredibly important now, in terms of our future trade and security, that if you can get the President on side, even if he is a grotesque racist fucker, you help your own country hugely.

Is that the decent thing to do? No of course not but in politics you often have to hold your nose to improve the situation for you own country.

He could have criticised Trump from the beginning, weakened NATO, ruined our chances of a trade deal and made our country worse off and more insecure. Is that what you want?

Johnson hasn’t been all over Trump at all, Trump seems to like him more than the other way around and I’ve not heard Johnson mention him for a long time.

Unfortunately, some people, like you, think it will help their argument to compare the two as much as possible, even if there are significant differences to everything they do, including policy.

The only thing they have in common is lying and stupid blonde hair and they’re certainly not alone in the political arena, even if Johnson seems incapable of telling the truth less than other politicians

Yeah, Macron tried the whole impress Trump with France, invite to a military parade, power handshake contests bollocks for about two years, then junked it as a bad job and put Trump on ignore.

Very French, very cynical. The one thing he missed off the list was dutiful arse rimming. He left that to the Brits.

Not to mention the fact that our whole approach to the Brexit negotiations was based on a stupid gamble that Trump would win, we could tell the EU to fuck off and get a trade deal with the USA. Seems not quite a coincidence that our approach changed almost overnight when it became clear Trump had lost.
What a load of utter nonsense

I almost wish there would be 7,000 lorries queuing up in Kent

At least it would give you guys something of substance to post rather than such fiction

We are out of the EU
We are out of the SM
We are out of the CU
We do not have a FTA with the US

And for the majority of the UK citizens, it feels like....

All of a sudden..... nothing happened

Despite the years of doom and gloom forecasts

So I’m not someone where it doesn’t affect my daily life so I can’t really speak for them on that or what their reasons for wanting to remain were - as they differ as much as people’s reasons for wanting to leave did.

I’d argue at the moment we’re only six days in though, my point was that saying nothings changed now isn’t true for everyone. Any impacts currently were only ever going to be felt by people in jobs like mine though where there’s a clear and immediate significant difference in ways of working.
We were ALL told the affects would be instant, day one, total chaos. We're one week in and nothing has happened. No economic crash, no pound devalued to less than its competitors. I'm more concerned about the fact the Spam is going to spoil due to it no longer being required. Anyone know the shelf life of 2,000 tins of Spam?

Mate got an import duty bill for £107 earlier for a jacket. It will be a gradual build up of those little frustrations that see us going back begging for more and more of what we had.

The departure of Dominic Cummings, who was the principal figure in our refusing to entertain a ‘level playing field’ provision, was announced 10 days after Biden won the election.

A month later we took the EU offer on fish, agreed LPF clauses, backed down on our threat to unilaterally override the Withdrawal Agreement and signed a deal.

Probably just a coincidence:)

He hasn't really got that bill has he? Nothing has happened.

Yeah, a single reference to an event that happened here four years ago and mirroring it with events in Washington yesterday is ‘an obsession’. Both were birthed by the same twisted nationalism, and fed with lies.

But then you were unable to grasp the NI issue, or even understand the problem, so your reaction is no surprise.

Your obsession with this thread you daft pillock. You try to use NI and pretty much anything else in the world as an argument against Brexit. Why you let this rule your life god only knows but it’s very weird mate. You say things like “it just amuses me all this” followed by things like “ I find it hard to stomach” . It appears you try to act all apathetic like you are just passing time on a forum but you let your mask slip.

It’s seems to bother you very much and you may have some personal reason for it but obsessed you absolutely are.

I think if @Ric closed this thread and found a way to not let it spread elsewhere he would be doing everyone’s mental health a lot of good.

They will persist just before this thread does so you’re fine for a decade or two:-)
