Political relations between UK-EU

I’m not nervous about Brexit, I don’t work in an industry likely to be adversely affected by it. It would be good to get a message to the hauliers and fishermen though that they are being hyperbolic
I'm nervous about it, because it's going to be more shit than expected for so many people. The Brexiters are drifting from being careless about the consequences to being callous. Worse, they are laughing about it. Shameless.

The most common response is denial. To mock the purveyor of the truth not the truth itself. To deny the existence of someone in their world rather than address the issues of a collapse in exports and the totemic fishing industry. They are going to go through so much denial this spring summer will have them in therapy

This gets such little coverage in the British - particularly English - press - can't imagine why

Was walking the dog as usual down along North Dublin bay. It’s the first time I’ve really taken notice, particularly on a Saturday, but there was a ferry coming in and two waiting out in the bay beyond the harbour walls, to the south.

Another ferry went out and headed south not east.

I had noticed this during the week also. A large freighter heading south.
You never really used to see much of that, pretty much everything would have headed east past Howth Head towards Holyhead.

Just an observation. A lot of traffic heading south.

After the news of the slump in exports it looks like it will be imports’ turn next.

On the other hand the government are denying the 68% slump in exports. They’re saying that some days 95-100% of expected exports occurred. Unfortunately they didn’t say how many days and won’t provide an alternative figure. Hauliers are standing by the 68% figure.

Seems to be a bit quiet on here. No bloviation for a couple of days.

I’m sure the Brexit fans will be along later to express their satisfaction that it’s all going well and any problems are either nothing to do with Brexit or just teething problems caused by Remainers. I’m sure that will go down well in the queue at the job centre.

You forgot T May and Robbins in your Brexiteers Bingo card of blame.

I am guessing John doesn't do much of his own shopping. UK supermarkets already stock and sell British shellfish. Is he suggesting that he knows more about stock control than say Morrison's or Tesco? I am pretty sure that they will stock with enough - usually a little more than enough which leads down the path of food waste - to meet the demand on any given day. Why would they buy more of a notoriously difficult item to keep fresh if that would mean their stock will exceed demand? Yet another ill thought out simplistic non-answer rather than facing up to an issue he has striven 40 years in politics to create

Ahh the benefits of a Private School Education .......

Occasionally you read something and you think about it, you read it again to make sure you read it properly and then you think, fuck me, i have quite possibly been as naive as at any time in my life and i am quite possibly as wrong as I have ever been in my life about politics

This is fucking chilling. I know i am capable of extreme hyperbole at times and I am not a huge fan of Alastair Campbell, but I implore you all, read this.

It is about a concept called the Sovereign Individual.

the brexit revolutionaries have barely begun. britain needs to wake up fast | Alastair Campbell

I saw that a while ago, it’s a very interesting read.

That wont happen, simply because we have elections. People have a vote and exercise it in this country. I think its pretty clear that British electorate wont allow our welfare state and NHS to be wound down, any party that advocates that just wont get elected. To have a welfare state you need taxes and taxes will evolve like they always have done to ensure they 'capture' enough revenue.

Cant believe I wasted time reading something by Campbell as I cant stand the man, he led the way for the likes of Cummings.

The sooner he disappears off the scene the better rather than stealing a living hanging onto everyone else's coat tails.

Of course it won’t happen.

It’s pure hyperbole and to be honest, if it’s worrying a communist it’s probably a good thing anyway.

I'd tend to agree but what about parties who stand on a ticket that says "we will not privatise the NHS" OR "We won't introduce university tuition fees" gets elected then sets about doing the polar opposite? It has happened before.

Previous utterings haven't aged well though

They get elected out and a party that promises to reintroduce the original policy gets back in. Tuition fees are a good example but sadly both main parties have backed them and they affected less of the public than the NHS. I don't think privatising the NHS through the back door has ever been acceptable to the vast majority of the British public and the idea is even less palatable after the last 12mths. Johnson knows this now without a doubt, even if he didn't before.

I’m tempted to say what’s new?
