Portugal
Portugal have 3 City lads that we all love and normally would be hoping that they do well but they've also got a couple of players that ruin all that. After the news that he’s left United, no doubt the pre-match is going to turn into the Ronaldo show. I hope our lads do well but I’m not sure I want Portugal going far in this tournament.
Portugal’s form this year has been solid enough, it wasn’t enough to top their Nation’s League group but they were close. They didn’t have a good World Cup Qualification, it took play-off matches against Turkey and North Macedonia to make it to Qatar.
Ghana
Ghana are back at the World Cup, this is their 4th appearance in the last 5 after missing the last one in Russia. Their squad isn’t as recognisable as we’ve been used to seeing in the past but they are strengthened by the recent acquisitions of Tariq Lamptey and Inaki Williams. Mohammed Kudus is someone to watch, he’s been playing well for Ajax.
Ghana have only won 3 of their 14 games this year and 2 of those were against Madagascar and Nicaragua. They had a poor AFCON getting knocked out in the group stages but they managed to overcome Nigeria in the World Cup playoffs. They’ll be hoping to pull off one of those World Cup shocks that seem to be on offer in the opening days of this World Cup.
