Pep is the undisputed king right now.

Who are some of the others? In the English game..

Sarri
Klopp (More attacking than pure possession)
Poch (Same as above)
Bielsa

Tony Pulis. The clouds above the pitch do a great job of keeping the ball.

Seriously though, I've been impressed by Norwich's approach under Daniel Farke.

Rodgers has been trying to imitate Pep since Swansea.

Pep: We showed great character today, City is such a historical club, a real family club, I call David Silva the Spanish Joe Allen.

It all makes sense now.

If it's purely possession based without any intention to score then it has to be Van Gaal's United team. They hardly got into the final third of the pitch but boy could they turgidly pass it around in their own half.

First of all - what exactly possession based managers mean? The ones that like to have the ball? With what purpose? Pep Guardiola's style of play and philosophy for the game as a whole is called Juego De Posicion or Positional Play. It uses possession as one of its elements BUT it is not the most important one. More relevant is what you do with that possession, do you use it to build an attack or to penetrate the low block defence you are facing at.. In the Premier League today only Sarri and partly Rodgers are similar to Pep..no one else.. Erik Ten Hag, Peter Bosz, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, Paulo Fonseca, Quique Setien, Paco Jemez, Julen Lopetegui,Roberto De Zerbi also deserve a mention..
