It's definitely possible mate, but I have reservations about it. Serious scammers, like Amrik Gill, would probably register numerous accounts to give good "rep" to the account he was scamming from. The blame would then land on my doorstep if anyone was ripped off, as people would say he had a good reputation on here.

Perhaps over X amount of points in order to give rep, a bit like it used to be X amount of posts to make threads. Just a point regarding mod posts.
What is the situation when they do an 'opinion' post by that I mean are they like any other member or can they act as mods as well during that post ?

It's a good question. We're posters who happen to be mods and have opinions on subjects, some very firmly held. What we try not to do is act as a mod when we're heavily involved in a thread with strong opinions being voiced.Just a point regarding mod posts.

If we feel there's a problem then we'll either raise a report or ask another mod to have a look. There have been a number of instances where mods have been heavily criticised by their fellow mods.

Why don't you only allow rep points to be awarded by mods and admin staff when a positive transaction is brought to their attention?

I was in favour of this before it happened and after a few days of it I'm even more in favour of it. There's been less of the boring "rag" posts and slagging off of newer memebers, and, at least to me, there seems to be more new posters prepared to post their opions, particularly in the main and transfer froum. If they all turn out to be wumming tossers or undercover fans from other clubs then I'll admit my opinion is wrong :-)
Nothing to do with 2 cracking wins then eh? :)

Personally I've had absolutely no problems along the lines you describe with nothing but help and advice from mods but I can see some confusion now that changes are being made.
It must be a fine line to have an opinion yet also be a mod so perhaps the two are already segregated and we should not be concerned ?.
Currently, a new poster has absolutely no idea if an opinion post is by a mod and I can see the value in this but if as you say a mod post also implies potential forum action perhaps they should be segregated ?
Looking at the usual ''get back onto thread topic'' post perhaps this should have the mod status attached to post a) to say it is official and b) to show it is a mod using that official status.
Anything else a mod posts (ie non official mod post) allows the mod to have an impassioned post in just the same way as the rest of the members (within forum rules of course).
Just an opinion and certainly not a complaint.

Might as well remove the joined date as well as that didn't affect a moderator trying to school me in the art of posting in the transfer forum yesterday.
I took time out from here two/three years ago due to an increase in negative posts and a trend of the first reply to my posts being a disagreement for the sake of disagreeing. Unfortunately, I don't think much has changed after my experience yesterday.

To encourage less cuntishness and promote higher quality, I'd rather see a score based on net post likes versus dislikes. So someone with 1,000 thumbs up and 1,100 thumbs down would show as -100. Someone with a score of + 8,000 would clearly be marked out both as a major contributor and a person who adds value to the forum. Someone with - 5,000 would show themselves up a serial bell end.
How feasible this would be I don't know.
