and have seen lots of ups and many many DOWNS at my beloved MCFC. Was at Villa Park when Spider shot us into the CUP final. Wembley both games and them bloody argies. Witnessed Pleat dancing on the hallowed Maine Road pitch when Luton sent us down and the violence that followed that game.
Remember going to my first game at Maine Road in the mid 70,s Burnley at home Bell,Lee,Sumerbee,Book,Corrigan and hearing a bell ringing most of the match thinking it was ice-cream man and meeting Helen.
Going to the Junior Blues and winning the raffle and receiving my 2 tickets to City v Spurs off Dennis Tueart my schoolboy hero. City won that day by 4 or 5 and Pat Jennings was man of the match.
Many ,many ups and DOWNS but yesterday and that press conference i was embarrassed to be a CITY fan, football is a joke. Its not a working mans game any more, just a rich mans toy.
Will always be BLUE and CITY till i die but yesterday was a very sad day in the history of MCFC...... :( :( Good night
It's all well and good about being embarrassed about the events of the past few days - on a personal note I didn't want Hughes to be sacked and like many others I feel his dismissal could've been handled better. Hanging him out to dry on Saturday afternoon was pretty poor form.
BUT...if this person from another forum is embarrassed to support our club more than ever before because of what has happened then it makes me wonder, given that they've been a fan for 45 years, where exactly were they on the numerous other occasions that our club has been involved in embarrassing incidents. And let's be fair - there's been plenty. I remember being up in arms at Peter Reid being sacked by Swales after Swales had appointed John Maddock to do his dirty work for him. It was a shocking way of doing things. However, once we'd had our moan at the following game at home to Coventry, we all got behind the new manager despite the fact that hardly anybody knew who he was. Swales himself didn't get let off the hook but given that he'd overseen 20 years of cock-up after cock-up, he didn't deserve to. The Reid business was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak. Then there's the Sven/Thaksin business - that was every bit as embarrassing if not moreso than what has gone on this weekend.
These things happen in football - it's not very pleasant when they do happen, but after having a bit of time to moan about it all us fans tend to move on and get behind the new incumbent. I honestly don't know why things should be any different on this occasion.
