Tell 'em to hang on for a minute, you left the gas on/there's someone at the door etc etc, then just put the receiver down on the table (don't hang up) and leave it there. That's what I normally do when I get these calls promising cheaper phone calls or electricity, time share holidays, health insurance and so on ad infinitum.
