Premier League 2 To Reduce Age Limit To Under-21 From Under-23

The Premier League 2 will become an under-21 competition instead of under-23 from next season.

The change was partly to match the age limits of the EFL Trophy - where some Premier League clubs field under-21 teams - and international competitions.

The average age of players in the Premier League 2 is 19.

Clubs will be allowed to use five overage outfield players and one goalkeeper - up from the previous limit of three and one respectively.

This isn’t going to affect us much. It probably makes winning the title slightly easier for us.

Thought so and It’d be fab if we won it again next season as it’d mean we’d won it 3 successive seasons which no team has ever done as it stands only us and Utd have won it 2 successive seasons.

It would be nice to get the triple triple of PL, PL2 & U18 three years in a row.
The triple PL, with a eye on an unprecedented quadruple… then I’d switch my City season target to getting a CL

I presume that's to do with being U21 at the start of qualifying perhaps which can be way before the finals?

Good change, but ultimately meaningless.

Nobody was fielding that many 22/23 year olds in there team.

If they did, this new system allows for more over age players, meaning they could have played anyways.
