I think it’s a comment that serves two purposes.

1. I think Souness definitely does like us and he hasn’t been shy about saying so in the past.
2. I think it’s also a defence mechanism - “how can we compete with the best squad ever in English football”.

I know what he means though.
We’ve looked sloppy at times, lapses of concentration or poor decision making but above all I think a bit of jadedness.
And still as a team and a system we have stuck relentlessly to the plan and it has pulled us through the bits that are below our normal standards.
We have won these games even when like yesterday it looked like we wouldn’t get a point.

I would love to see us at peak levels to put Chelsea away first, then do the same to Liverpool and pulverise Spuds when they come to our place.

Goes without saying! It's easy to have the best squad when we have twice as many players as everyone else. Everyone knows the dipper staring 11 is the best in the history of football.
