Not that I think Pep regrets allowing Jesus to leave because we have Haaland now but I do wonder whether he secretly wishes that he gave Gabby more of a consistent run through the middle, especially once Aguero had left. I know he apparently asked to play on the wing last season but I think that was because he was short on confidence after four years of largely being in Aguero's shadow.
The season before last was when I realised it wasn't going to work out for him here. Aguero was out for most of the season with injuries and covid but Jesus still couldn't nail down a place as our main striker. Instead, we switched to the false nine system and in a lot of games De Bruyne was preferred to him. That would no doubt have dented his confidence further and is probably what led to him asking to change position. I will acknowledge that Gabby's finishing did sometimes leave a lot to be desired so I can understand why Pep maybe started to lose a bit of faith in him.
It's a shame though because if you asked Pep to describe the perfect striker for his system it would look a lot like Gabriel Jesus. Part of me thinks if Aguero hadn't been here when he arrived then things could've turned out very differently, not that he did too bad here mind. Oh well it's all hypothetical, he's an Arsenal player now and as you say they've got themselves an absolute bargain.
Er, Álvarez is a Jesus' upgrade.
Let's hope Guardiola doesn't make the same mistake twice...
