Premier League Games 7/8 Oct '23

Not particularly. Diving is always hard for a referee to be certain about. When does an embellished fall become a dive?

Hardly anyone goes down with no contact these days. Bissouma did and got sent off.

If a player is clipped, it’s up to the referee to decide whether it’s enough to be a foul or enough of a dive to book them.
Tons of people go down in anticipation of contact though and start falling before it comes. Bissouma was basically unlucky that the contact didn’t come, but he was just doing what hundreds of others do every week.

Not arguing that he didn’t deserve a yellow, just that plenty of others do too.

Spurs closed up shop pretty well to their credit when they were under the cosh a bit but Luton are so so poor. You'd fancy 15 of the sides to beat Luton with 10 men.

Bissouma was guilty of doing it badly.

Disagree. Hundreds is a vast exaggeration.

Anticipating contact isn’t against the rules. If they start their fall before any contact happens, then that should be a booking. Thar is hard to spot for on field referees to be sure of though.

Absolutely hopeless in front of goal. Spurs looked shite too though really. Made a meal of beating a team they’re miles better than.
