Premier League Payments 2018/19 - City 2nd

The Premier League is much more equitable that Tebas's La LIga. Seen a summary of the total payouts including merit money, facility fees etc, and City got 6% of total pot as Champions. In Spain the top two take 10% each.

Indeed - when people talk about the ability of anyone to compete, it's not the Premier League per se that's the problem, the income levels are perfectly equitable. It's beyond that the problems arise.

Anyone else feel like it is ridiculous that in an era of FFP that TV companies could have such a say in which clubs earn what monies from that contract? It is, in effect, SPONSORSHIP of the club.

ALL monies, above the base payment, should be based on League position. It is literally a fact that two private companies can determine which clubs may and may not meet FFP.

Financial doping.

Yes Premier League vs rest of English football and then the effect of the Champions League payments within the Premier League.

How much do nbc pay considering they show pretty much every game
From 3 yrs ago:

NBC Sports Group inked a six-year extension to retain its rights to English Premier League coverage on Monday.

NBC - currently in the final season of a three-year, $250 million deal - pounced on the prize. The financial details of the contract extension have not yet been disclosed.
——————————-

So, they had been paying about $85M/yr, so one expects that to have increased to about $100M/yr, or about £77M/yr, and growing for the US rights for 6 yrs.

However, it’s all about subscriptions and ad dollars, and NBCSN is clearly not a premium ad product. It is a cable station that is not on many cable packages, especially those that are not Comcast/XFINITY, which owns NBC.

The primary advertiser last season was Volkswagen, with myriad second-tier advertisers picking up the slack.

This past season, they upped NBC Gold (the PL streaming package on the web) to $50/season, so I expect that to go up in price again, too.

That said, it’s an excellent deal, especially with Streaming DVR, which allows you to see any game anywhere on your phone/tablet/computer.

It is pretty obscene the amount of money swilling about in the Premier League, with so little trickling down to the lower leagues. Guess that's what the "big five" wanted back in 1992 though.
The Premier League was always about providing the biggest teams with the most money and creating a British financial “Super League.”

The fact that the PL split off from the EFL means haves and have nots, with increased TV viewing meaning even though big games don’t occur at 3pm on Sat, they are close enough to affect both attendance and interest in the lower leagues.

That said, once you’ve tasted the quality of the best teams in the PL, which used to be a quick dessert on late night Sat TV (MOTD), it can be hard to go watch the dross that passes for professional football in some places.

Also, 92 clubs is a very very large number in an era of increasing costs. I expect we will shortly lose at least 1 of the 4 full professional divisions in the near future.
