Premier League Protest Against Uighur Treatment

I wasn't trying to be argumentative, I thought you didn't support the idea because you didn't think it spoke to wider racial grievances. That's fair enough. We disagree.

The Premier league aren't driving BLM, they're following it.

That would not be the case with the Uighur, because there's nothing to follow.

Protest is not generated by corporations, they prefer to cautiously dip their toe in, if it's fashionable and if it's safe.

As do any other corporate entity.

The issue with the Premier League (or NBA) and China isn't a question of the leagues themselves coming out and making a political point, but upholding the freedoms of people within that league to speak out about issues they care about. There's nothing to stop any Premier League player from speaking up about the war in Syria, the migrant crisis, or any number of other human rights issues around the world. The problem is that when that issue is related to China, we increasingly see them throwing their weight around to try and stop people outside of China criticising their regime. We even see them trying to influence what is taught in our universities on the grounds that they have large numbers of Chinese students. And that's what needs to stop. China needs to be told in no uncertain terms that we'll say what the fuck we want in our own countries.
