If ever there was proof positive of the dire state of refereeing in the Prem, it was on display at Fratton Park.

Ireland got decked TWICE without a foul before he put in an innocuous challenge on Davis in the corner. The ASSistant ref waves his flag as if someone has been shot and Ireland gets a yellow card? If there was ANY, and I mean even the slightest of, contact, it was a tap with his trailing leg, which was wrapped underneath Ireland himself. For me, it was not even a foul, especially given the thundering that Hreidarsson gave Ireland prior, which was not even a foul!

As for the Bellamy yellow, I am not sure I can put into words just how disgusting it is to see referees using prior prejudice against a player to give him a yellow card for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! The ref did not even give a foul for the coming together of the two, but Hreidarsson simply pointed to Bellamy, said something, and next time the ball goes out of play, Bellamy gets a yellow?!!

The level of refereeing, with scant few exceptions, has become a complete joke AROUND THE WORLD. A prime example of the complete LOSS of the English game of football is the foul given against Bellamy for supposedly pushing over Campbell! He fell down as if hit by Lee Harvey Oswald from the Book Depository!

The game has become a joke and is a COMPLETE frustration to watch if one is trying to watch a game of FOOTBALL and not a spectacle spoiled by feigned fouls, refs that are so stupid (and have clearly never really played the game) that they fall for everything, and linesmen who have taken the "ASSistant Referee" title to their heads and wave their flags furiously if ANYTHING happens in their vicinity.

In addition, the rules do not allow you to go back and review the video evidence AGAINST things the ref THOUGHT he saw but did not actually happen. But, if he was so behind the play that he does not see something, he DOES get to use video to dole out punishment later........but not against the studs in the back by Bosingwa, because the ref ACTUALLY said he saw it and NOTHING was given????

Can ANYONE explain to me how Bosingwa's challenge is NOT a RED card, but Ireland and Bellamy get yellow cards for NOTHING?!

Also, anyone see the close ups on TV of Johnson shouting "Hey! Hey!" to the ref when he gives City a corner? Ref turns to him and Johnson gives the ref a mouthful, effing and blinding him for the decision. Isn't that a red card offence, or at least a yellow for dissent? Oh wait, if that ACTUALLY happened, Wayne Rooney would never be allowed to play football again! My bad!!

Disgusted in Chicago!

You can bang on about referees all day long, the truth is, there was one team who were half decent and had the desire to win and one that was complete shite. guess which team we were??

I was thinking eaxctly the same thing on ther way back from the pub, how Ireland and Bellamy got booked is beyond me. There eas an incident in the first half when Ireland won the ball quite clearly in the middle of the park right in front of the ref and a foul was given and the corner incident was a farce aswell.

Yep, sliding tackle, from the Pompey players left side, Ireland slid in, knocked the ball away with his right foot, player fell down, ref gave a foul. On the replay, Ref was next closest person to the play, about 3-5 yards away, and the TV announcers were quick to point out it was all ball. Ireland said nothing and got on with it and then gets a yellow card for ANOTHER NOTHING CHALLENGE later in the game!

A joke!

No disagreement here on that score, but before the end of the season, BOTH Ireland and Bellamy will probably be suspended as a result of JOKE yellow cards they received today. People seem to forget that players missing from key games down the line are often the difference between a win and a loss. These two particular players are two of our biggest scoring threats. Let's hope it is not the derby game, eh?

Just making a point about the dire refereeing, not trying to provide an apology for a dire performance by the majority of the players in black and red today.

Cheers!
