President Joe Biden

Apart from his calls to prayer you’d hardy know that religion played a big part in his life but up to now he comes across as a decent human being
I’ve got a lot of time for him over the last few weeks, having not known much about him previously, only makes me respect him more that he’s a Christian.

He’s the opposite of Trump in many ways and I think most people have now breathed a sigh of relief.

To the more well informed members on here.
How much did the religious vote sway the vote to Biden ?
Watching the news channels in the weeks leading up to the election I noted quite a few church leaders coming out in support of Biden, especially in Georgia.

I thought when Trump was elected he got a lot of the christian votes , did they leave him this time around ?
Christianity Today magazine (evangelical but not particularly Bible Belt) decided a year ago they couldn't support Trump over Ukraine. I presume it cost them readers. The Bible Belt Southern Baptists are mostly still Trumpers. My nephew attends a church in PA - locals are Republicans, but it's also hinterland for Philadelphia / NY Democrats. Episcopalians and Methodists probably more Democrat, Catholics split over abortion, and now Bible Belt churches might split between Trump loyalists and Republicans for whom the spell may be broken.

It will be interesting for those who've invested in the pro-Israel stuff who've regarded Trump as an instrument of God - but losing wasn't in the prophecy. It really is odd - pro-Israel on the basis that two-thirds of Jews will die and a third will become Christians. It really is a bit of an unholy alliance.

As FogBlue pointed out, belief in the US is not what it was.

He does what everyone should do in his position, he mostly keeps it to himself and whilst it likely guides his morality, he recognises America’s secular constitution.

Biden is actually a proper Catholic but keeps it mostly personal, while Trump clearly isn't reading the Gospel but still uses it as a political football.
Trump will claim to be whatever will advance his position. If he had thought neo liberalism would get him into power he would have embraced that. Instead, it was right wing ideology. Nobody that tracked his behaviour could believe he is in any way sincerely religious.

I’m assuming by proper catholic you mean a person that attends mass regularly. I am fascinated by those that are guided By their religious beliefs and how that influences their public duty.

I saw an interview where a religious group asked him his favourite verse or passage from the bible. You’d think he’d have a made up prepared answer. Nope. Just said, hmm, I like them all. Ok, so old or New Testament. Well, I like them both the same.

How so many religious groups thought he gave a shit is incredible.
To be fair after 13 years of Catholic school and LOT of time as an altar boy or lector, I’m not sure I have a favo(u)rite Bible verse. But I do remember an awful lot of parables. Like that one about the fucking **** who became President.

Fully agree with the first bit and by the second bit I just mean he seems sincere about it, there are many Christians that don’t attend that are probably in a better place with their faith than some that do go to Church, and of course vice versa.

Biden’s approach is what I’d probably do in his position, I suppose, not that I’ll ever get anywhere near a similar role in life to him.
