Maybe because he knows that the only way anything can be done is by changing the political landscape by voting out of office enough of the gun nuts to make a difference. In fact it would be remiss of him not to make it a political issue if he actually wants to do something about it. Opponents of gun control who make these accusations of politicisation are not doing it out of concern for victims. It’s because they want to buy bigger and better guns whenever they want.

Lots of things can be done. Every Republican supports funding schools to improve entry exit and lockdown technology. Adding Resource Officers. And training willing faculty to conceal carry. Many even support the moving of gun purchase from 18-21.

There are clearly lots of things Republicans are willing to do and other things some will consider.
