Has anybody done or is currently taking private flying lessons?

I've been thinking about it for awhile and now have my first session booked in (through a birthday present).

I don't mind flying but the thought of flying in a smaller plane does make me slightly nervous!!

Just curious to see if and what other people make of it.

A few of my mates have got planes and done it, I'll ask

I like the idea but seen to many films of turbo props conking out mid-flight mate.

As long as we hit 4k straight away and i had a parachute packed and double checked by the worlds greatest parachute packing robot i may risk it.
The first cough or splutter though mate and jump out, just jump, forget the poor sap teaching you.

I've never got in one, blown around over Barton bridge, fuck off!

Did lots of hours in small light aircraft out in SA as a passenger and got the controls on plenty of occasions as well.

Great fun but I will say this. You feel every bump, rock and roll and for a while, I suffered quite badly with feeling sick as it takes some getting used to.

Go for it though mate as its fantastic fun.

Don't go with American Airlines then, nice staff but because they look like your nice auntie who gave you lots of sweets as a kid.
No mile high club here folks, move along.

first impressions, after the preflight check, are how flimsy and small the cockpit is. The pilot will point out the few instruments, and then start the engine at which point all the instruments become blurred.
Roll down the runway at full revs, take-off speed reached the nose comes up the bumping stops and both your lives are entirely dependent on the motor not stopping/misfiring. Safe altitude reached the pilot will let you choose an area to fly over(within reason) and let you take the controls. Stooge around and then time to land and it's the last few feet that give an impression of speed. As a precaution, discretely get a whiff of the pilot's breath, make a will and carry a sickbag :)

Yes, I have my PPL. Nothing wrong with being nervous...better than being overconfident.

You'll have some incredible experiences and sights if you see it through.

Good luck
