When I download files on my laptop I cannot open/run them.

As an example I have installed AVG free, but when I go to open the file it says the it is corrupt (exact error message - Extraction Failed /File is corrupt). This was similar when installing flash/ Chrome etc.

When I first had the problem I removed and reinstalled Vista and my Internet manager. When this didn't work I suspected it was my dongle so I bought a new one, but the problem persisted.

My mate took it home to have a look at it and he had no such issues and was able to install a few of the programs easily (Chrome/ winzip) and I can now use them, but files I have downloaded myself at home cannot be ran (AVG).

The internet is running fine and there is no problems with signal etc.

Does anyone have any ideas other than jumping up and down on the laptop?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds possibly like malware...download 'malwarebytes' free version, you'll find it on google..run it and hopefully you'll find if anything is interfering with your downloads.

Alternatively it could be your internet connection. Have you noticed whether your connection 'breaks' during downloads or at any time at all really? If your download speed is painfully slow you should check what speed you should expect from your ISP's package. A slow connection will cause time outs with your downloads and cause you to recieve corrupted files. Again, google is your friend...search for an 'online speed test' and compare it to what you should expect from your provider. If it falls short its time to get on the blower to get it sorted out. Good luck mate.
