I’m not sure if anyone is a fan of Prog rock as it implies your taste encompasses all bands of that genre.
I do like groups that are Prog however - Yes, Genesis, Frost, Starcastle and UK being some.

Limp lyrics. The endlessly boring instrumental sections. Minimal emotion or energy. Terrible sounding keyboards and musical combinations. Just keep noodling until no one can remember who they are or where they came from. Make every song 10mins plus for no reason.

Like making a meal out of condiments.
Don't forget Wizards, gotta have wizards lad..

I always thought that but apparently one of my favourite albums of all time is classed as progressive rock. So it's perhaps too wide a genre to simply dismiss. It's certainly far from being my favourite genre on the whole though.
I grew up listening to Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush, Yes etc and only the final one was a band I remember thinking of as prog rock at the time.

Categorising prog is impossible anyway, I'd throw The Stranglers into any prog /not prog argument. Prog punk?
Been trying to think of examples of punk or post-punk bands doing covers of prog songs.

The Fall certainly did two: ‘Strangetown’ by The Groundhogs and ‘War’ by Henry Cow.

It’s a genre I would like to love - but I’m just a basic melody man at heart

Interestingly though we’ve had very few Prog rock nominations in the Album nominations
