Pubs in Southampton

Asked this on the match thread. We've always used the reasonable Yates's half way between the station and the ground. Would welcome alternative suggestions for getting in as away fans. i.e. Colours on.

I've memories of not getting back in to Yates's afterwards following the 3-0 win. Last season or the season before. A Spoons before the train back is familiar. Yates's will have the football on and usually music too.

Couple seasons ago we were stopped from going in there because we had colours on. I just removed my City top and he let me in. Mind you I was wearing a t-shirt underneath and with the 70s badge across the whole of it!

Before or after for the Yates's? I've always got at least a scarf on and there were loads of shirts in there beforehand. What bothered me the most was that the pub was empty but security wouldn't let us in.

It was after the game and the place was quiet all night. There was a few of us. My mate got refused entry because he had a City training top on, then the guy said I couldn't go in with mine on. So I took it off and he let me through with the biggest City badge I could possibly wear, it was really funny.

There is another pub that serves better beer than Yates's called the Frog and Parrot, it's on the same road.

If you were to come out of Yates's, turn left, straight over at the lights and about another 150/200 yards on the opposite side of the road.

They will have the football on in there too, it's easier to get served and as I said, a better choice of beer. They do food too.

It's definitely away fan friendly? I like to avoid the named pubs as then they've got you where they want you but sometimes it's the only place you can get in.

The Giddy Bridge on London Road is a popular football pub, five minutes from the ground

I thought pubs where @Bilboblue and @peoffrey frequented at the same time in towns beginning with S ended up being attacked?

Don't! I laugh about it now but was really upset, angry and disappointed at the time. I grew up in a rough part of Manchester and now live in an equally rough part of London but have never had that experience before. Ironically, I'd gone to find the other blues in Seville for safety in numbers.

Don't hang around with Bilbo, trouble follows him everywhere.

I won't ask you to elaborate. Malaga are my Spanish side but I have a real soft spot for Real Betis now because their fans were so welcoming and friendly over there. Everyone seemed to be a fan from the man in the street through to airport security. I hope to return one day so I can get to one of their matches.
