Anyone remember that bloke who went round all the bars in town shouting
"SEAFOOD Y'ALL!!" at the top of his voice?

Yeah, remember him well. Used to see him in The Old Garratt, when it was a proper pub, and the Circus, which still is!
Anyone remember pub on London Road, small, on the corner, opposite the Picc Station rampway? Think it was The Coach and Horses? Irish guy was landlord? Clearly remember being in there one Friday evening, early doors (Great series!) and noticed he had re-whitewashed the toilet walls, but, there were lines, like tracks all over the walls. And when I asked him what caused them, he replied, ''Not sure what they were, I thought painting over them would kill them, but the little buggers walked off...'' Class pub, great pint.
My other favourite old pub was Cox's Bar, behind The Free Trade Hall. Great for before and after gigs there. Boddies on top form. And remember those heated glass cabinets on the bar, with pies in that looked like they had been there for ages?

Had a game of 'don' last week for the first time in ages.

The tap room in my local was all the things you miss Barryo up until a few weeks ago. A boozer up the road selling beer at 1.40 a pint, the lack of smoking and the old school Landlord being demoted to a manager seem to have finished it off.

Might upset the non smokers on here,but i always had fond memories of the old pubs being smoke filled rooms with lots of old characters, who's only concern in life, was where the next pint was coming from.We have lost some great boozers in our town,they have been replaced by shite wine bars,continental style cafes selling ale, and Weatherspoons.

I lived in 13 different pubs around Manchester whilst growing up in the late 70,s early 80,s. all in proper working class areas like Levenshulme, Longsight , Ardwick and Wythenshawe.

Pubs have changed so much now tho and so many are closing down for a multitude of reasons.

I was just thinking today what i miss about the "old" pubs that just isn't there anymore.

A few things sprung to mind including 5.30pm opening( Pubs used to shut at 3pm before 24 hour drinking came in), there was always a few workmen finished for the day in their scruffed up work gear gagging for a few pints.
I also miss the banter that you could have without someone wanting to stab you or smash a bottle over your head(not saying that it was always violence free but it was not as bad as now)

Anyone else miss those PUBS?

Hi,yeah i miss them used to drink in the george and dragon ardwick green in the mid sixties before the match ,that was a good old pub at that time, any one on here use that pub then?

there was a fantastic pub called Kings Arms in chorlton on Medlock

the lad -a huge fella brewed loads of different ales including a wonderful banana beer -think he emigrated to russia
loads of different belgian bottled stuff to
had a fab album juke box

The queens arms in cheetham hill is still fantastic

Yeah - remember the Coach & Horses well as I used to be at the Poly on Aytoun Street. Great pint of Tetleys in there. In there one evening and some CAMRA types came in and one claimed his pint was a bit cloudy so the landlord threw him out!

Also used to go in Tommy Ducks a lot when I worked next door. Another great pub now sadly gone.

The Britons Protection near the Bridgewater Hall is a top place still.

I used togo in the JW Lee's at side of Arndale for a good few years on a Friday after work, used ot work at the Argos there and before the bomb we was the First backdoor, so it was out of there across to security hatch and out to JW lee's for a few games of pool before moving upstairs for Friday night frolics.
