QF 1st Leg Post Match Thread

This is my first post on this board, so hello everybody. City fan from the US here.

It seems to me that Pep is managing the run in at this point, not just the present game. We have so many matches crunched together that we can't afford a Pyrrhic victory. The lineup that he sent out didn't concede in the first half and dominated the second half outside of a weird mistake as a result of a ball the defenders thought went out. We could have just as easily flipped the scoreline with how the second half went. In which case we would have taken the first leg while resting important players.

Now, it didn't work out that way. But we only conceded one and are very much in this. I don't necessarily think his plan was a bad one. We'll see how it plays out from here. But I have a hard time seeing us conceding at home and not scoring a couple with our A squad. Especially if Kane is out for any length of time. It may be a bit narrow view of Pep's strategy to look at the single game plan without the context of the rest of our fixtures.

Spurs are playing Huddersfield at home on Saturday, not sure that counts as another big game from any perspective other than Huddersfield fans getting to see the stadium firsthand.
They have to take it very seriously if they hope to ensure a top four finish. They put in a lot of effort last night and could slip up if they are not careful. Points dropped in this match would probably see them finish 5th or 6th.

Just seen the goal properley for the first time we cant defend like that if we want to win it how has that beat ederson ???
Poor goalkeeping but he was injured just before. Poor defending by Delph and then a lack of closing down by others main source of blame.

I'm still mad at the ridiculous substitutions being made in the 89th minute.

If Sané doesn't play 90 minutes on Sunday, then what on earth are we to think? Pep's only excuse presumably for not bringing him on sooner was to rest him for upcoming games.

Unless he's just got some big fat downer on one of the most exciting young talents in world football :-(

The only problem with your analogy, and it’s quite a big one, is that there are absolutely no guarantees that playing KDB and or Sane would have yielded a different result and it might have ended up as a worse one. It’s what makes football what it is and why many of us keep going.
True but surely they should have come on a lot earlier certainly after they scored unless Pep was scared we would concede again rather than draw level.

Its baffling. There must be something going on it training that Pep doesn't like because he should be fresh and raring to go. I honestly dont think he'll play Sunday (if Bernardo is ok)

It really does my head in. Sané makes things happen pretty much every time he comes on. He's got skill and pace to burn, incredible vision, composure and can score goals. I'd have him starting every game.
