Whilst I take your point about being pictured with a bad person doesn't automatically make you a bad person, I could only really absolve Edward of any fault.
Hall wasn’t known as a wrong’un until he was accused of it and prosecuted pretty quickly (well, compared to now).
Epstein had a lot of accusations and a cloud over his name for years and Andrew kept having his picture taken with him and got his mum to stave off accusations of his wrong doing with £12m of our money.
Savile was “notoriously” a wrong’un. For whatever reason, probably his own cunning, failed to be caught whilst he was still alive. Still, his disguise was immense. Nobody that chooses to look like a paedo, is a paedo, right?
The royals have a huge, OTT, PR department. It seems to fail when it comes to paedos.

As AHT says, Edward has a good excuse and Charles slightly less so but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

The problem is that by replacing the PM, you could have a complete change in political direction. Potentially you could go from a social democratic agenda that had broad consensus to a hard-right or hard-left one overnight following a change in PM.
I think that you can make a strong case for the general electorate having a choice.
