The best thing for the monarchy would be for Charles refuse the crown and then we get a young king. I was going to add 'who is more in touch with the modern world' but he's a royal and they're about as far from reality as you can get.
I can't see Charles standing down either. He's been trained his whole life to be King and he gives me the impression that he thinks he'd be quite good at it.
