To suggest the playing of a goalkeeper has any merit as an outfield player in the context of a football match is ludicrous. It would be only suggested by a complete fool or alternatively the current england manager :-)

On a serious note, that season 6 foot 5 Christian Negouai was playing upfront for the reserves and if memory serves me correct finished top scorer. Quite incredible that Pearce hatched this plan, got a jersey printed, but never thought of using the reserve outfield player of a similar size, who had scored a number of goals from that position. Even more incredible he is now England manager......memories of David James swinging wildly and fouling the opposition return
