Rags advertising at Manchester airport

I could be wrong but I seem to recollect the city boundary being extended to include Ringway. It was originally in Cheshire.
This is correct, when Manchester airport was extended into Styal, Cheshire, the boundary was changed. I remember, I used to live in Styal, and my Uncles house in Styal, was compulsory purchased and is included in the Greater Manchester boundary.

And I have just checked, the border was changed in 1974 to bring the hanger areas into the City boundaries. The road to Styal from Altrincham Road which connected Morley Green to Styal (where the brickworks formerly were) was taken over by the airport authority, and security barriers were put in place blocking public access. So the original Ringway airport was in Cheshire, but now the extended Manchester Airport is part of Manchester.

The Parish had previously been in the Bucklow Rural District of Cheshire'

It is owned by the local authorities in Greater Manchester (shared) now, but it wasn't always the case as said before. Part of Styal in Cheshire was absorbed into the boundary.

An historical and Regional Survey of the village of Styal, Cheshire explains how the borders with Manchester changed with the extension into Manchester.

Just to clarify the "shared" bit Manchester City CC own 35.5% and the remaining 9 councils of GM own 29% between them = 3.22% each The remaining 35.5% is owned by IMF Investors, an Australian investment management company that specialises in Debt Investments, Infrastructure, Listed Equities and Private Equity. The company is owned by 27 major not-for-profit Australian pension funds)

Surely the airport could be sued by a nervous flyer having to see Phil Jones face in the walkway to the plane would cause major psychological damage?

No his face could have the opposite effect, anyone terrified of flying thinking what's the worst that can happen is going to think at least it won't be Phil Jones bad
