Rags???

I heard, or read a story the term "Rags" was coined when they had to replay a cup tie at Maine Road and turned up with kit that either clashed with their opponents, or had no kit at all. City loaned them the worst kit they had (rags) and the rest, as they say, is history. Can anyone back this up?

As it happens i've heard that they actually bestowed the term 'rags' on themselves , for some strange reason ..... long before we did it !
